Raonic, formerly ranked as high as No. 3 in men’s singles, hasn’t competed since July 2024.

“The time has come, I am retiring from tennis,” Raonic wrote on his Instagram page. “This is a moment you know will come one day, but somehow you never feel ready for it. This is as ready as I ever will be. Tennis has been my love and obsession for most of my life.”

The 35-year-old from Thornhill, Ontario was last in action at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he fell in the first round against Germany’s Dominik Koepfer.

Raonic was a dangerous opponent when healthy, winning eight ATP Tour titles and reaching the final of the 2016 Wimbledon Championship where he lost in straight sets against Andy Murray.

One of the most elite servers of the Open Era, Raonic finishes his career with a 92-37 record at major tournaments. He reached at least the quarterfinals in 10 Grand Slam main draws.

“A big part of my tennis journey has been the incredible people I have been fortunate to meet all over the world,” Raonic wrote. “What’s next? I won’t be slowing down. There is so much more life to live, and I am motivated and hungry as I was in 2011, when I broke through on tour.”

In addition to reaching the Wimbledon final in 2016, Raonic has advanced as far as the Australian Open semi’s (2016) and the French Open quarterfinal (2014).

The first Grand Slam of 2026 kicks off on Sunday with the 114th edition of the Australian Open. Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are the favourites to win the men’s draw, while Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek are favoured in the women’s draw.
