Alphonso Davies

Davies suffered a torn muscle fibre in his right hamstring in Bayern’s 3-2 Bundesliga win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.

Canada Soccer said no decision has been made on Davies’ availability for the March international window.

“Our Men’s National Team’s medical staff continues to be in close communication with FC Bayern München’s medical staff concerning Alphonso Davies,” Canada Soccer said in a statement. “A determination on his availability for the upcoming March international window has not yet been made. In the coming weeks, we will announce the full team roster.”

Bayern Munich confirmed Davies’ injury occurred in Saturday’s win and announced the Canadian star will be sidelined “for the time being.”

There’s been no official timeline given for Davies’ return, although when Bayern coach Vincent Kompany spoke to reporters on Saturday, he said he thought the absence could be two to four weeks.

The latest injury comes after Davies missed nine months because of an ACL injury he suffered in his right knee while playing for Canada last March.

2026 World Cup

Canada will host Iceland on March 28 and Tunisia on March 31 at BMO Field during the upcoming international window. That will be the last official ramp up to the 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by Canada, the United States and Mexico.

Currently No. 29 in the FIFA World Rankings, Canada is in Group B in the World Cup, along with No. 18 Switzerland, No. 56 Qatar and one more opponent still to be determined.

Canada will find out the fourth opponent in Group B on March 31. The possible opponents are Wales, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Italy and Northern Ireland.

While it’s still unknown who Canada will open the World Cup against on June 12 at BMO Field, the Canadians are set to play Qatar on June 18 and Switzerland on June 24, both at BC Place in Vancouver.

Canada is +350 to move on from the group stage for the first time ever in their World Cup history.
