Ottawa Senators vs. Detroit Red Wings Prediction, NHL Odds

Tuesday night in the NHL brings a huge 15-game slate, which is loaded with consequential matchups. The Senators vs Red Wings game is as important as any.

This will be the fourth and final instalment of the season series. With 12 games remaining in the regular season, Detroit is one point out of a playoff spot and Ottawa is two points out. The two points up for grabs in this one are massive.

Senators vs. Red Wings NHL Betting Odds

Unsurprisingly, the moneyline odds are even as both teams are -110 to win outright. Ottawa is listed as the puckline favourite, though, with odds of +220 to cover -1.5 goals. The game total is at 6.0, with the over being -105 and the under being -115.

Detroit has had the better of the season series, capturing all three games by scores of 5-3, 4-3 and 2-1. Ottawa would love nothing more than to reverse head-to-head trends, and it appears they have a good chance to do so. The Senators have won three straight as part of four wins in their last five and a 14-3-2 run in their last 17. Meanwhile, Detroit is 3-4-2 in its last nine games.

Ottawa Senators

The Senators have been one of the more inconsistent teams all season. Though they are turning it on at the right time, they’re hoping it is not too little too late. Among several aspects of their game, a key improvement driving Ottawa’s recent success has been their goal prevention.

The aforementioned inconsistency this year was due largely to a general struggle to keep the puck out of the net. Lately, that has changed. The Senators have allowed just five goals in their last three games, and two or fewer goals in eight out of their 13 games since the Olympic break. They will need every bit of that goal prevention tonight.

Detroit Red Wings

This Red Wings team should be as hungry as any in hockey. The noise has become very loud around them regarding their near-decade playoff drought. If they miss the playoffs for a 10th consecutive season this year, there will likely be some sort of shake-up in the organization. These players do not want that to happen.

With 24 points remaining available in Detroit’s season, there is still ample opportunity to get themselves into a comfortable enough playoff spot by season’s end. But the margin for error is getting thin. If this team is going to snap this postseason drought, their playoffs need to start now with wins over direct competition for that coveted spot.

NHL Prediction: Who Will Win Senators vs. Red Wings?

It has taken four games, but it finally looks to be Ottawa’s time to win against Detroit this season. The Senators are rolling, and have been doing so for long enough for it not to be considered a fluke. In a game with very little separating the two opponents, Ottawa looks to be the more reliable play.

Any home-ice advantage the Red Wings have looks to be neutralized as they have dropped six of their last eight played at home. Meanwhile, the Senators have won four out of their last five on the road. At the time of all three wins head-to-head, the Red Wings were the team in better recent form. That is not the case on Tuesday. This has the makings of a narrow 3-2 Senators win.
