Ottawa Senators vs. New York Rangers Prediction, NHL Odds

The Rangers took care of business in Ottawa Wednesday, beating the Sens 3-1 and snapping a three-game skid.

Neither club has gotten off to an ideal first quarter of their 2022–23 seasons, especially for the Senators at 8-13-1 and last in the Atlantic Division. New York is 11-9-4 on the season, but on the outside looking in when it comes to a playoff spot and that’s way below the expectations the Rangers have this season

Puck drop at Madison Square Garden starts at 7 p.m. EST, with the Rangers a -175 moneyline favourite on home ice and the total at 6.5 on the NHL odds.

Senators vs. Rangers NHL Betting Odds

The garden hasn’t been much of an advantage for the Rangers this season, who are just 4-5-3 on home ice so far. Ottawa is 3-6 on the road though, meaning someone’s going to improve in an area they need to. New York has held an advantage over Ottawa though with wins in four of their last five meetings.

Goals have been hard to come by in these matchups too. The under has connected in eight of the last 10 Senators–Rangers battles. The under is also 6-1 in Ottawa’s last seven games overall, and 6-3 in the Rangers’ last nine. Ottawa scored one goal in four of those last seven games has a lot do with their trend, while New York’s done a solid job keeping pucks out of their net by allowing three or fewer goals in seven of their last nine outings.

Ottawa Senators

Shane Pinto tallied Ottawa’s lone goal versus New York, but despite the recent cold spell for Ottawa they still rank 17th in the league with 3.05 goals per game. They also have a top-12 power-play on the season that’s converting at a 23.8 per cent rate, and are seventh with 33.5 shots per game. Brady Tkachuk, Claude Giroux, and Pinto are all tied for the team lead with nine goals each and Tkachuk has a team-high 25 points (and 34 penalty minutes).

Ottawa did run into a hot goalie Wednesday too as Jaroslav Halak stopped 34 of 35 shots, but the bad news for Ottawa is that they’re likely getting reigning Vezina winner Igor Shesterkin on Friday

New York Rangers

The Rangers got goals from Jimmy Vesey, Barclay Goodrow and Chris Kreider against Ottawa Wednesday while defenceman Ryan Lindgren picked up a trio of assists. Kreider’s 11th of the season moved him into a tie with Mika Zibanejad for the team lead in goals.

Halak’s 34-save night led to his first win of the season, as Ottawa has been a get-right opponent for several clubs looking to have a strong defensive night. Shesterkin’s been New York’s horse in net though, appearing in 17 games to go with 10 wins and a .913 save percentage.
