Senators vs. Hurricanes NHL Betting Odds

There is nothing that players in the NBA or NHL dislike more than a one-game road trip in the middle of an otherwise heavy home schedule, and that’s what Ottawa is facing on Friday as it heads to Raleigh for its only road matchup in a six-game stretch.

This marks the second of three meetings this season between the Senators and Hurricanes, with Ottawa closing the regular season at home vs. the Canes on April 17. No doubt Carolina will have clinched a playoff spot by then and is more than capable of finishing as the Eastern Conference’s top seed. The Hurricanes are +400 co-favourites with defending Stanley Cup champion Florida to win the East and +500 favourites to win the Presidents’ Trophy.

On Nov. 16 also in North Carolina, the Senators lost 4-0 as Hurricanes usual third-string goaltender Spencer Martin, the former Vancouver Canuck, had his first NHL shutout with 24 saves. The Hurricanes scored at least one goal in every period and were 2-for-5 on the power play while killing off all four Ottawa chances. Anton Forsberg made 24 saves for the Senators.

Carolina is 7-3 in the past 10 meetings and the over-under is 3-7 in those.

Ottawa Senators

The Senators completed a four-game homestand at 3-1 following Wednesday’s 5-1 win over Anaheim, arguably Ottawa’s best-played game in weeks overall. Drake Batherson was the easy No. 1 star with a hat trick (up to 12 goals on the season) and an assist. Batherson became only the third Senators player in the last 10 years with a natural hat trick, the 10th-fastest player in franchise history to reach 100 career goals (337 games) and sixth member of the 2017 NHL Draft class to reach the 100-goal milestone but first selected outside of the first two rounds.

Noah Gregor opened the scoring with his third goal of the season at 2:55 of the first, and the Sens would improve to 10-2-0 when scoring first. Brady Tkachuk also scored, his 14th of the year. Tim Stutzle extended his multi-assist streak to a career-high three games, one shy of the franchise record. Ottawa was 3-for-5 on the power play and killed off all five Anaheim chances.

Linus Ullmark started Wednesday, but it might be Anton Forsberg here because Ottawa plays again Saturday at home vs. Pittsburgh and in theory it makes sense to give Ullmark that extra day of rest. Forsberg is 1-3-0 on the road this season with a 2.85 GAA and .903 SV. The Senators are 3-7 in their past 10 road games.

Carolina Hurricanes

Carolina is only 2-4 in its past six but avoided a massive home upset on Tuesday with a 3-2 win over San Jose. The Sharks led 2-1 entering the third, but Brent Burns (second goal of season) tied it at 4:11 and Jalen Chatfield (third) had the winner at 17:21. Shayne Gostisbehere (sixth) also found the net to extend his home point streak to eight games and tied the second longest by a defenceman in franchise history dating to its days as the Hartford Whalers. Dougie Hamilton holds the mark of nine in a row in 2020-21.

It was the Hurricanes’ 10th comeback win of 2024-25, second-most in the NHL. However, centre Jack Drury (3G, 6A) left injured and is expected to miss time. With former Maple Leafs netminder and projected Carolina No. 1 Frederik Andersen still sidelined due to injury, Pyotr Kochetkov has handled most of the work and is 12-4-0 with a 2.64 GAA and .894 save per centage after Tuesday’s win. Kochetkov has been playing a ton lately, so it’s not out of the question that Spencer Martin (3-4-1, 3.89 GAA) gets the call. But considering the Canes have been off since Tuesday and this is not part of a back-to-back for them, maybe not. Carolina is 10-2 in its past 12 at home in this series.
