The contract contains opt-outs after the first and second years as well as a $5 million opt-out bonus.

Bichette is expected to play third base with the Mets after playing almost exclusively at shortstop during his seven years with the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Orlando, Florida native had a bounce-back season in 2025, hitting .311 with 18 home runs and 94 RBIs before suffering a sprained knee on Sept. 6.

Bichette returned for the World Series, hitting .348 and launching a three-run home run in Game 7.

After the heartbreaking World Series loss, Bichette reiterated his desire to stay in Toronto.

“I’ve said I want to be here from the beginning,” Bichette said.

Bichette finishes his seven-year tenure with the Blue Jays hitting .294 with 111 home runs and 437 RBIs over 748 games. A two-time All Star, he also led the American Leagues in hits twice.

Bichette will make his return to Rogers Centre when the Mets visit the Blue Jays for a three-game series from June 29 to July 1.

MLB futures

New York Mets owner Steve Cohen has’t been afraid to spend money as the team had the second-highest payroll in baseball even before the Bichette signing.

Multiple reports indicate the Mets and Blue Jays were the other two finalists in the Kyle Tucker sweepstakes before he signed with the Dodgers, who easily boast the largest payroll in baseball.

The Mets sits at +1500 to win the World Series, just behind the Blue Jays at +1300. New York also has the fourth-shortest odds to win the National League at +800.
