Ottawa’s key strength in this matchup is their elite offence, as they score at the eighth-highest rate (3.32 per game), and eighth-highest power play (23.2 per cent). This offensive prowess greatly outmatches the Flyers. Furthermore, they come into this game with a near full bill of health, missing only veteran forward David Perron – who has been out for two weeks. If they plan on making an improbable playoff run after the break, this win is all-important. Expect a full effort from this team.

Philadelphia Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers (25-20-10) are coming off a major victory after a four-game losing streak. Above all, this team needs to get back to winning, as the standings have really tightened up. Early season dominance is running out, and I expect panic to creep in.

Philadelphia does have some things going for them, such as home ice and a clean bill of health, but I’m not sure it will be enough. The Flyers typically succeed when playing as a committee, rather than leaning on stars. However, I think there is a significant mismatch in star talent, making the Senators a hard team to skate with for an entire game.

Ottawa is 3-2-1 on the road in their last six road games, while Philadelphia has won just three of their last ten home games. Philadelphia has been a great story this season with a surprisingly good record, but Ottawa has a deeper roster that is primed to win now, and they clearly have the Flyers’ number this season. I expect Ottawa to take this game by a final of 4-2.
