Ottawa Senators vs. New Jersey Devils Prediction, NHL Odds
This is the teams’ first meeting of the season. New Jersey won two of three matchups last year and claimed a 4-3 overtime win in their most recent meeting on April 12.
The Senators are off to a strong 4-1-0 start to the new season, and have won back-to-back games against the Flyers and Predators. Meanwhile, the Devils are 2-2-0 and looking to win back-to-back games for the first time this season.
Senators vs. Devils NHL Betting Odds
Oddsmakers give the Devils a slight edge in this matchup. New Jersey enters with moneyline odds of -133, while Ottawa is +113 to win on the road.
On the puck line, Devils -1.5 is valued at +185, while Ottawa +1.5 is -230. The game total is set at 6, with odds of +100 on the Over and -120 on the Under.
At +150, New Jersey’s Jack Hughes has the shortest odds of any player to score a goal in this game. Despite battling injuries, Hughes has scored 27 goals in each of the last three seasons. He has scored one goal in four games this season, which came in the season opener against Philadelphia.
With odds of +210, Ottawa’s Tim Stutzle has the shortest odds of any Senator to score a goal in the contest. Stutzle potted 34 goals last season and is off to a hot start with four goals in five games in the new campaign.
Ottawa Senators
The Senators are into a new era without former captain Brady Tkachuk. Tkachuk spent eight years in Ottawa and became a force on both ends of the ice, racking up 463 points as a Senator. Tkachuk was traded to the Florida Panthers in the offseason, but the Senators are off to a 4-1-0 start without him.
With Tkachuk gone, Stutzle is already taking on a larger role for the Senators.
He leads the team with four goals and eight points through five games, and could be poised to reach the 40-goal mark for the first time in his career.
Ottawa’s strong start is in large part down to the stellar play of Linus Ullmark in net. The veteran netminder is 4-0-0 with a 1.34 goals-against average and .942 save percentage to begin the season. He is slated to be between the pipes in this contest, and owns a steady 2.25 goals-against average and .928 save percentage in 19 career appearances against the Devils.
New Jersey Devils
The Devils saw their point total drop from 91 in 2024-25 to 87 in 2025-26, and ultimately missed the playoffs. Now into the third year of the Sheldon Keefe era, New Jersey is looking to get back into the postseason mix.
Goalscoring has been hard to come by for the Devils, averaging 2.50 goals per game, which ranks 24th in the NHL. They have also been burned on the penalty kill early and often this season, with their PK percentage of 63.6% ranking 29th in the league.
Jesper Bratt and Jack Hughes lead the team with four points, with each of them scoring one goal and dishing out three assists. Goaltender Jake Allen is 2-1-0 with a 2.65 goals-against average and .896 save percentage to start the season.
NHL Prediction: Who Will Win Senators vs. Devils?
The Devils are off to an inconsistent start, while the Senators have hit the ground running in 2026-27.
Ottawa plays a much more physical brand of hockey than New Jersey, which could make the Devils uncomfortable and force them into a style of play they don’t thrive in. Ottawa also has a much better netminder in Linus Ullmark.
Playing on the road, look for the Senators to find the win column in this matchup.
