Michael Andlauer Buys the Senators
A Toronto-based business, Andlauer’s non-sports-related endeavours primarily concern themselves with transportation and logistics, specifically in the health care sector. Of note, he is a partial owner of the Montreal Canadiens. Clearly, the NHL Board of Governors will need to see some details ironed out.
His interest in having a hand in organized sports doesn’t end with le Tricolore. He owned a Hamilton-based American League Hockey team. He sold that organization to the Canadiens, then subsequently purchased the Ontario Hockey League’s team established in Belleville and moved it to Hamilton! They even kept the previous iteration’s name, the Hamilton Bulldogs.
Once the information is made official by the club, it will put an end to a fascinating saga that saw many popular people toss their names into the hat with bids. Ryan Reynolds, Los Angeles entrepreneur group Sparks Neko (which had Snoop Dog and Donovan Bailey on board). Two siblings, Jeffrey and Michel Kimel, had also put in a bid for the Sens, one that had music artist the Weeknd. Wild stuff for the Canadian NHL team that tends to get the least amount of traction in the media.
The club’s previous owner, Eugene Melnyk, passed away in 2022 and since then his daughters Anna and Olivia ran the organization.
