New York Rangers vs. Edmonton Oilers Prediction, NHL Odds
The Edmonton Oilers will be aiming to extend their current home win streak to four games when they host the New York Rangers on Thursday in NHL betting action at Rogers Place.
The Oilers opened their current three-game homestand with a decisive 6-3 win over Utah on Tuesday, halting an overall two-game slide, and have now averaged five goals per game during their 3-0-0 run on home ice. The Rangers snapped a three-game swoon with Tuesday’s 2-0 victory in Vancouver, but have recorded consecutive wins just once during a middling 4-5-2 start to the season.
The Oilers are perched as -160 favourites on Thursday’s NHL odds. The Rangers trail as +135 NHL moneyline underdogs, and the total is listed at 6.0.
Rangers vs. Oilers NHL Betting Odds
These two clubs wrap up a two-game season series with Thursday’s matchup. The Oilers skated to a 2-0 victory when they visited Broadway on October 14, and have now topped the rangers in four straight meetings while allowing just six total goals.
However, the Oilers have produced mixed results when facing the Blueshirts on home ice, winning just one of their past three and just four of eight dates since 2015, and have given up at least five goals three times over that stretch, generating a 4-1 run for the OVER in totals betting.
With six goals scored in each of their past two home dates, the Oil have also seen the OVER pay out three times during their 3-0-1 start at home.
Overall, Edmonton has earned the win in 10 of its past 14 regular season home dates, and have suffered just two defeats in regulation over that stretch.
While the Rangers have yet to record a win at home this season, they have been road warriors, going 4-1-1 away from Madison Square Garden while giving up more than two goals on just two occasions.
Indeed, despite their shaky start, the Rangers enter Thursday’s action sporting a team goals against average of just 2.36, second best in the NHL.
New York Rangers
Considering this team has managed to score over two goals just four times during their 4-5-2 start, they have been fortunate to receive steady goaltending from the tandem of Igor Shesterkin and Jonathan Quick. On Tuesday, it was Quick’s turn to shine, with the veteran netminder turning aside all 23 shots he faced in their win over the Canucks.
However, Shesterkin is expected to return to the crease on Thursday faced with the task of overcoming a pair of tough outings. The talented Russian was lit up for 11 total goals on just 54 shots while backstopping the squad to losses against Calgary and San Jose last week, and has been tagged for 11 total goals while going 1-2-0 in three all-time starts versus the Oilers.
New York’s big guns have done little to help. Artemi Panarin enters Thursday riding a three-game points drought, while JT Miller and Alexis Lafreniere have combined to score just one total goal over the past nine games.
Edmonton Oilers
After a relatively uneven start to the campaign, Leon Draisaitl has finally found his groove. Draisaitl led the attack with a goal and an assist in Tuesday’s win over Utah, extending his points streak to six games, including two-point efforts in each of his past three outings.
Connor McDavid also broke through in the win over the Mammoth, potting a pair of markers after scoring just one goal in his first 10 game appearances, and now leads the squad with three goals and 11 assists.
Speaking of getting over slow starts, Evan Bouchard has finally started to produce as expected. The talented rearguard raised eyebrows while failing to crack the scoresheet in his first six outings, but has produced in five games since, tallying a goal and six helpers including three assists on Tuesday, and offers good value as a -120 bet on the NHL player props to pick up at least one assist on Thursday.
