Edmonton Oilers vs. Ottawa Senators Prediction, NHL Odds

Ottawa has been struggling early this season, losing four of its past five games, and has just a single regulation win through six games, that win coming on the road in the season opener.

The NHL odds have the Oilers as the -135 road favourites, with the total set at an even six goals. Puck drop at Canadian Tire Centre is set for 7:00 PM ET.

Oilers vs. Senators NHL Betting Odds

It has been nearly 10 months since the Oilers last saw the Senators, back in December of last year. Edmonton took the season series 2-0 last season as part of a dominant 8-2 run versus Ottawa over the past five seasons. In those 10 matchups, there was a single one-goal game, making Edmonton 8-2 against the spread as well. Connor McDavid has feasted on the Sens in his career, notching 46 points in just 26 games, adding 103 shots on goal, just under four per game. He is still without a goal this season, but he is +150 as an anytime goal scorer on Tuesday.

The Oilers’ defensive game is a big reason for their current three-game losing streak, giving up 13 goals in the stretch. After playing the UNDER in their first three games, their record on the OVER/UNDER is now 1-3-2. Through six contests, McDavid is still goalless, which has never happened in his 11 seasons. He is still the second favourite for the Hart Trophy at +270 on our NHL Futures Board, behind only Nathan MacKinnon.

A tough 2-4 start has made the Senators a tough bet early this season. They have not covered the spread since their season opener against the Tampa Bay Lightning, making them 1-5 ATS so far. Their games have been high scoring so far, playing the OVER in five of six. They have surrendered four or more goals in all but one game, with a goals against average of five, tied for the worst in the league.

Edmonton Oilers

The back half of this road trip has been brutal for the Oilers after back-to-back losses on the weekend put their record to 2-3-1. On Saturday, they lost in New Jersey 5-3 to the Devils, then took a 4-2 loss to the Red Wings on Sunday afternoon in Detroit.

For a second straight game, it was tied at 0-0 after the first, but Detroit came back with two goals in just over three minutes in the second to go up 2-0. Noah Philip (2nd) cut the lead in half, but the Wings would get another in the dying minutes to take a 3-1 lead into the intermission.

Leon Draisaitl would score his fourth to bring it to a one-goal game, but the Red Wings would add an empty netter, bringing the game to a 4-2 final.

A good start will be important for Edmonton tonight, as they have not scored the first goal in any of their past three games.

After back-to-back cup losses, the NHL Futures Board still has Edmonton as the second favourite to win the Stanley Cup this year at +800.

Ottawa Senators

After a shootout win on Thursday got the Sens back in the win column, they could not finish the job on Saturday in a 5-4 loss to the New York Islanders. Ottawa held the lead three different times, but were held off the scoresheet in the third, dropping their record to 2-4.

David Perron (2nd) and Shane Pinto (7th) got the Senators in front 2-0 before the Islanders answered with a pair of their own to even things. Tim Stutzle (2nd) and Dylan Cozens (3rd) would also tally in the second, sending the game to the third period with a 4-3 Ottawa lead. The win was stolen from them in the third, being held to just five shots and giving up the game-winner with 1:03 to go.

With Pinto scoring his seventh goal, he’s now atop the league. He has scored a goal in three straight games, his longest goal streak since October of 2022. With a new contract on the horizon, Pinto hopes to surpass his career high of 21 tucks set last season.
