Oilers vs. Kings NHL Playoff Betting Odds
Has this series been entertaining through four games or what? At least seven goals scored in each, and it seems like there’s a lead change every period. Edmonton’s 4-3 overtime comeback win on Sunday kept the home team at 4-0 in the series.
On the updated series line, Edmonton is now the -115 favourite (was +170 entering Game 4) and Los Angeles -105 (was -210). The favoured exact result is Kings in seven at +250 barely over Oilers in six at +260, and we still like Los Angeles in seven. That it ends in six games and seven are both priced -115. Kings at +1.5 on the series spread is -325 and Oilers +1.5 is -350.
We told you entering Game 4 that we liked one game in the series to go to OT, and that it stays at one is -125 with two games at +155. Now I’m thinking two games is value at that price. That there are no shutouts is up to -350, and that has to be the choice the way these offences are going. The Kings’ Adrian Kempe is the +135 favourite as the series’ top goalscorer.
Edmonton is 11-5 all-time in a best-of-seven series when tied 2-2, and 6-4 when it started said series on the road. In Game 5s, the Oilers are 25-17 overall and 12-12 away. Los Angeles is 9-6 in a series when tied 2-2, and 2-2 when starting it at home. In Game 5s, the Kings are 18-18 overall and 6-2 at home.
Edmonton Oilers
The Oilers were in major danger of falling into a 3-1 series hole on Sunday trailing 3-1 at home about seven minutes into the third period of Game 4 before Evan Bouchard’s heroics. His third goal of the series at 7:51 cut it to 3-2, and Bouchard’s fourth at 19:31 sent the game to overtime. There, Leon Draisaitl’s power-play goal at 18:18 was the winner. It was the Oilers’ ninth multi-goal third-period comeback win in franchise playoff history and first since Game 6 of the 2006 conference quarterfinals. It was Draisaitl’s first career playoff OT goal, which is surprising, and he had three assists. It marked the German’s eighth career four-point playoff game to tie Mario Lemieux for the fifth most in NHL history. Wayne Gretzky’s mark of 26 such games is safe.
Bouchard, the game’s No. 1 star, became the second defenceman in Oilers history with multiple multi-goal playoff games, joining Paul Coffey (five times). Bouchard also had two goals in Game 3 and thus became the fourth blueliner in NHL history to record consecutive multi-goal games in the playoffs. Connor McDavid had two assists to become the fifth player in Oilers history with 40 career multi-point games. Calvin Pickard started in net for both wins in Edmonton, so it’s hard to imagine the Oilers go back to Stuart Skinner for Game 5 as badly as he struggled in Los Angeles in the first two games. Pickard had a better road GAA (2.54) than at home (2.94) during the regular season.
Los Angeles Kings
The Kings are now four games under .500 on the road dating to the regular season with Sunday’s loss in which they blew leads of 2-0 and 3-1. Trevor Moore (second of series), Warren Foegele (first) and Kevin Fiala (third) had the goals. Philip Danault had two assists and became the third Kings player in the past 10 years to record a four-game point streak to start the playoffs. Defenceman Vladislav Gavrikov’s tripping penalty on Connor McDavid in overtime proved very costly. Los Angeles had largely dominated special teams in the series but was 0-for-3 with the man advantage Sunday and allowed the Oilers to score twice on three power-play chances – including the winner. Darcy Kuemper stopped 43 of 47 shots loss and should be back in there Tuesday. Of the 16 goals he’s allowed in this series, 10 of them have come in the third period or overtime. No team has been better on home ice this season at 33-6-4 than Los Angeles.
