Edmonton Oilers vs. LA Kings Game 2 Prediction, NHL Playoff Odds

The Pacific Division-rival Oilers and Kings played a wild Game 1 of their Western Conference first-round playoff series with 11 goals scored, and Los Angeles tries for a 2-0 lead as a -135 home favourite on the NHL odds with a total of six goals for Wednesday’s Game 2.

Oilers vs. Kings NHL Betting Odds

This is the third of three Stanley Cup playoff games on Wednesday and the latest-starting one at 10 p.m. ET shown on TBS in the United States. This also marks the last game in the Oilers-Kings series before if shifts to Edmonton for Game 3 on Friday.

Los Angeles is in the early catbird’s seat by taking Game 1 on Monday by a score of 6-5, and teams that win Game 1 of a best-of-seven series own an all-time series record of 525-247. Clubs that go up 2-0 own an all-time series record of 353-56, including a 266-34 mark when starting at home.

Edmonton is 13-15 all-time when trailing a best-of-seven series 1-0, and 7-11 when starting said series on the road. Los Angeles is 10-7 when taking a 1-0 lead and 8-5 when doing so at home. On the updated series line, the Kings are -235 and Oilers +195. Los Angeles in five is the overall +340 leader but that it goes seven games is the +200 favourite with the over-under set at 5.5. Definitely like the over.

That one game goes to overtime after Game 1 nearly did is the +135 favourite. And after 11 goals in the opener, that there will not be a shutout by either club in the series is -140. On the updated odds to win the West, the Kings are +550 and Oilers +800.

Edmonton Oilers

Needless to say, most times that a team scores five goals in a playoff game it wins said game, but the Oilers allowed six in the Game 1 loss in Los Angeles. But that Edmonton erased a late-second-period 4-0 lead to nearly force overtime certainly was a minor victory. Connor McDavid’s first goal of the game at 18:32 of the third tied it before late Kings heroics. He also had three assists and now has 40 career playoff points vs. the  Kings, trailing only Mark Messier (42) in that category. Leon Draisaitl had the team’s first goal to start the comeback, his 15th straight playoff game with at least a point against the Kings to tie Jaromir Jagr and Peter Forsberg for the fourth-longest postseason streak against a single opponent. It was Draisaitl’s 18th playoff goal against the Kings to tie Esa Tikkanen for the most in the postseason against Los Angeles.

Edmonton was outshot 30-25 and had just two power-play opportunities (not scoring on either), while allowing the Kings five chances with the man advantage on which they scored twice. With Stuart Skinner struggling in allowing six goals on 30 shots, it could be Calvin Pickard’s turn Wednesday. He was 13-5-0 in the regular season on the road with a 2.54 ERA. The under is 6-1 in the Oilers’ past seven road games.

Los Angeles Kings

Los Angeles got the Game 1 winning goal from Phillip Danault with 41.1 seconds remaining in regulation, marking the latest go-ahead regulation goal in franchise playoff history. L.A. blew a four-goal lead to put itself in that spot. It marked only the fourth time in Stanley Cup history where a team won a game in regulation after surrendering a four-goal lead. It last happened by Calgary in Game 1 of the 2022 second round. Danault also scored in the second for a 4-0 lead and was the game’s No. 1 star. Adrian Kempe and Andrei Kuzmenko both had a goal and two assists.

Kempe now has 23 career playoff points and all against Edmonton. He is the only player in NHL history to record each of his first 23 career postseason points against the same franchise – the next-closest player is Pierre Turgeon, who had his first 15 against the Bruins. Darcy Kuemper stopped 20 of 25 shots and should be back in there for Game 2. Los Angeles is now a league-best 32-6-4 at home this season.
