Edmonton Oilers vs. Vegas Golden Knights Game 5 Prediction, NHL Odds
The series goes back to Vegas for the Game 5 Friday night, a place the Golden Knights are only 3-2 at these playoffs.
Edmonton tied up the series on Wednesday via a 4-1 victory, the third straight game in this series that was decided by at least three goals. Things got quite chippy at the end of Edmonton’s win, as Vegas’ Alex Pietrangelo a game misconduct for slashing and Darnell Nurse a late instigator penalty in a scrap with Nicolas Hague. Pietrangelo has a hearing for his penalty, while by rule Nurse is set to receive a one-game suspension that can be rescinded.
Puck drop for Game 5 at T-Mobile Arena gets going at 10 p.m. EDT with Edmonton a slight road favourite at -125 moneyline odds and the over-under still at seven on the NHL odds.
Oilers vs. Golden Knights NHL Playoff Betting Odds
The under’s now hit in three straight games this series. The losing team has scored a single goal in the last three games, but the winning has scored at least four. Game 4 was the series’ lowest-scoring game yet with a total of five goals. It didn’t appear to be headed that direction too after a three-goal first period from the Oilers. Every single first period in this series has featured at least three goals, and over three goals twice.
Edmonton heads back to Vegas have won 10 of their last 12 road games overall and five of their last six at Vegas. The Oilers also have 30 road wins this season and have fared better on the road this year.
Edmonton Oilers
Head coach Jay Woodcroft stuck with Stuart Skinner in the crease for Game 4 and the decision paid off as Stuart stopped 25 of 26 Vegas shots after getting yanked in the game prior. The Oilers also spotted Skinner with a 4-0 lead after 40 minutes as they cruised to the victory. Nick Bjugstad opened the scoring for Edmonton, and defencemen Evan Bouchard and Mattias Ekholm added to the lead. Bouchard’s tally came as another power-play bomb while Ekholm scored his first of the post-season.
And the monkey is finally off the back of Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, who buried his first of the playoffs after scoring 37 in the regular season to go with a 104-point campaign. Connor McDavid also picked up two helpers in the win and Leon Draisaitl got back on the score sheet with an assist.
Vegas Golden Knights
The Golden Knights didn’t do much right in Game 4’s loss and now could face more trouble with Pietrangelo facing a possible suspension. Giving Edmonton six power-plays in Game 4 was Vegas’ biggest issue, but one they cleaned up in Game 3 when they needed, and got a bounce back performance. Nicolas Roy scored the Golden Knights’ lone goal in the loss, his first of the post-season.
Adin Hill made his first start of the playoffs in net and allowed four goals on 33 shots. Jonathan Quick dressed as the backup goalie with Laurent Brossoit, Vegas’ starter for their first eight playoff games now injured. If Hill can’t find his footing in Game 5, it could be the two-time champion and Conn Smythe-winning Quick in net later on in this series.
