Edmonton Oilers vs. Philadelphia Flyers Prediction, NHL Odds

Edmonton just snapped a three-game skid but did so in dramatic fashion with a 5-4 overtime win against Columbus on Monday. The win got the Oilers back above .500 on the season but they remain outside the playoff picture entering Wednesday.

Philadelphia is 2-3 this month and is coming off an overtime loss to Ottawa on Saturday. But the 8-5-2 start to Philly’s season is something Rick Tocchet probably would’ve signed up for. Tocchet has got the Flyers playing better hockey, but it’s low-event hockey. The Flyers 2.6 goals against per game is 5th in the NHL, but they’re 26th in scoring with 2.67 goals per contest.

Puck drop at Xfinity Mobile Arena goes at 7:30 p.m. EST with the Oilers entering as a -140 moneyline favourite on the road and the over/under at six on the NHL odds.

Oilers vs. Flyers NHL Betting Odds

As they head into a season-long seven-game road trip, Edmonton’s yet to figure out ways to consistently win away from home. The Oilers are 2-5-2 on the road this season and those struggles hold true when they go to Philadelphia — Edmonton’s come out with just one win in their last seven trips there.

The under is both 4-1 in the Flyers last five home games, and last five games against a Western Conference opponent. Scoring’s been a recent issue for Philadelphia as they’ve gone over three goals just one in their last five outings. Edmonton’s allowed at least four goals in three straight games, but are 1-1-1 as they score right back (see Connor McDavid vs. Columbus on Monday).

Edmonton Oilers

Dark times were looming in Edmonton when a fourth-straight loss appeared evident during their battle with Columbus on Monday. Connor McDavid and company had other plans, with Edmonton rattling off three goals in the final period to force overtime and have Jack Roslovic clinch the victory in overtime. McDavid scored two highlight-reel goals in the win, and he’s now finding his scoring touch with goals in three straight games. Defenceman Jake Walman has been huge offensively too, scoring the tying goal on Monday and he’s now at 10 points in 11 games.

Goaltending just remains a massive issue for Edmonton. Stuart Skinner’s save percentage has dropped to .883, which is considerably better than Calvin Pickard’s .836 mark. Goalie trade rumours are swirling in Edmonton, but now for it appears the Oilers have to outscore teams in high numbers.

Philadelphia Flyers

The four-day break for the Flyers could provide to be useful as Tyson Forester was skating back in his top-six spot yesterday after four games with a lower-body injury. Forester, a 2020 first-round pick, quietly put up 25 goals last season and was off to a good start with four goals and three assists in 11 games so far. Someone who’s not been so under the radar is leading scorer Trevor Zegras. The trade acquisition has a team-high 16 points this season and has been mixing it up with opponents too, which is sure to get the Flyers faithful on his side.

Dan Vladar has emerged as Philly’s top goalie this season and he’s off to a hell of a start. Vladar leads the Flyers with six wins and has a .917 save percentage in nine appearances this season. Expect Vladar to be between the pipes against this high-flying Edmonton squad.
