Edmonton Oilers vs. Boston Bruins Prediction, NHL Odds
The Edmonton Oilers can’t seem to figure out how to string multiple victories together as they haven’t won consecutive games since late November. After win at home versus the New York Rangers on Tuesday, the Oilers fell on Thursday to the Buffalo Sabres. They’ll try to get back in the win column on Saturday but they’re a massive underdog on the road at Boston.
Oilers vs. Bruins Betting Analysis
Edmonton is 11-9-2 straight up on the road this season but the Oilers are 15-7 on the puck line in those games. Edmonton is just 1-5 in its last five road games overall and is also 1-6 in their last seven games against Atlantic Division opponents.
Boston is 14-1-9 at TD Garden this season, which really just means 14-10 to bettors. The Bruins are 40-18 in their last 58 Saturday games and are an impressive 35-16 in its last 51 games against Pacific Division opponents. However, the Bruins are 0-4 in their last four games against Western Conference opponents.
Edmonton Oilers
Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl have done everything they can to keep Edmonton in the Western Conference playoff race this season. McDavid and Draisaitl rank 1-2 in NHL scoring with 64 and 63 points respectively. However, even with their superstar tandem putting up massive numbers the Oilers haven’t won many games of late. Edmonton, who was once 16-7-3 and in first place in the Pacific Division, has notched just five wins in their last 17 games.
The biggest reason for that is the fact that McDavid and Draisaitl haven’t received much help from their teammates. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has picked up the pace a bit with five points in his last two games. Nugent-Hopkins, James Neal and even Riley Sheahan need to be able to give Edmonton more in terms of secondary scoring if this team is going to contend for a playoff spot.
Perhaps the biggest improvement must come between the pipes, where the Oilers need Mikko Koskinen and Mike Smith to be better. Koskinen owns a 3.42 goals-against average over the last month of action. Smith has been even worse with a 3.91 mark over that same span.
Boston Bruins
The Bruins have had the luxury of much better goaltending from start to finish this season. Jaroslav Halak, who owns a 2.20 goals-against average and a .930 save percentage with three shutouts this season, is expected to get the nod against the Oilers on Saturday afternoon. Meanwhile, David Pastrnak has been on an absolute tear with a league-leading 30 goals this season and he’s getting plenty of help from his teammates. Brad Marchand has been excellent with 20 goals and 59 points while players like Jake DeBrusk, Charlie Coyle and David Krejci have all chipped in with a combined 25 goals.
This should be an easy matchup for the Bruins as they’re more balanced, better defensively and better between the pipes.
