Edmonton Oilers vs. Chicago Blackhawks Prediction, NHL Odds
The Edmonton Oilers look to close the gap on the Pacific Division-leading Vegas Golden Knights with a third straight road win when they visit the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday night in NHL betting action at United Centre.
The Oilers saw a two-game win streak snapped by Saturday’s 4-3 shootout loss to Los Angeles but have suffered consecutive defeats just once during a 13-7-2 run that leaves them trailing Vegas by just three points in the divisional standings.
The Blackhawks return home after skating to a 3-0 victory in Nashville on Saturday that marks their fifth win on six games and lifts them to within three points of a wild card spot in the Western Conference.
The Oilers arrive in the Windy City perched as -160 road favourites on the NHL odds. The Blackhawks trail as +135 underdogs, and the total is pegged at 6.5.
Oilers vs. Blackhawks NHL Betting Odds
The Oilers posted a 3-2 home victory in their first meeting of the season with the Blackhawks on November 1, extending a lengthy dominant run that has seen them claim victory in nine of 10 head-to-head matchups including five straight in Chicago.
However, the Blackhawks have kept things close in recent dates with the Oil, with each of their past three clashes getting settled by a single goal after seeing four of their previous five tilts decided by multi-goal margins.
The total has reached 7.0 in three of the past four meetings between these clubs, ending a 3-0 run for the UNDER. However, the OVER has gone 6-1 in their past seven dates at United Centre. The Oilers have produced mixed results on the road during their recent steady run, winning just four of seven while averaging just three goals per game and have averaged just 2.80 goals per game over their past five road dates.
The Blackhawks have enjoyed steady goaltending that has surrendered just 2.50 goals per game during their current 5-1-0 tear. However, the club continues to give up big shot totals, allowing 30+ shots on goal in three of their past five contests.
Edmonton Oilers
Leon Draisaitl maintained his recent torrid pace in Saturday’s loss to the Kings. The big German potted a pair of goals on eight shots, and has now recorded three markers and three assists during a three-game points streak.
Draisaitl has also picked up two points in each of his past three appearances against the Blackhawks and has turned in multi-point performances 12 times while potting 15 goals and 22 helpers during an epic 19-game points streak versus Chicago.
Accordingly, Draisaitl should be on every ticket tonight as a -110 bet to pick up OVER 1.5 points. Connor McDavid potted a crucial game-tying goal with the man advantage in Saturday’s defeat, and has now scored 19 goals and 42 points during an impressive 18-game points streak.
Chicago Blackhawks
Spencer Knight is expected to return to the crease on Monday night after missing the past two games due to illness. The 24-year-old has earned the win in three straight starts while stopping 81 of 89 total shots faced, and has allowed just 25 total goals while going 4-5-1 over his past 10 starts.
Knight’s numbers would look even better if only he could get more scoring support from the team’s skaters. The Blackhawks have scored just four total goals over their past two games and averaged just 3.33 goals scored over their past nine contests, a stat that is heavily skewed by the club’s 7-3 win over St. Louis last week.
However, Connor Bedard looked to have fully recovered from his recent injury while tallying a pair of helpers in Nashville on Saturday. The return of Bedard has helped Tyler Bertuzzi maintain his steady scoring pace. Bertuzzi contributed a goal and an assist on Saturday in his third multi-point performance in nine games after failing to record a point during the first five games of Bedard’s recent absence.
