Seattle Kraken vs. Calgary Flames Prediction, NHL Odds

A new week in the NHL kicks off with a Pacific Division battle between the Seattle Kraken and Calgary Flames. Part of a five-game slate in the NHL on Monday, these teams play their second of four matchups this regular season.

When these teams met on December 18, Calgary defended home ice in a 4-2 victory. They will be looking for the same result in this one, while a surging Seattle team will look to get even.

The Flames are -145 favourites to win on the NHL odds, with the total set at 5.5.

Kraken vs. Flames NHL Betting Odds

On the puckline, Seattle has been outstanding with a 27-12 record, while Calgary has also been great at 25-16. As for the over/under totals, Seattle has seen 23 of its 39 games go under, while Calgary has had 23 of 41 matchups go over. Since the Kraken joined the NHL, the Flames have won 11 of 16 matchups head-to-head.

Nazem Kadri (+165) leads the way in goalscoring odds in the game, with Matt Coronato (+225) and Mikael Backlund (+230) next for the Flames. Jordan Eberle (+210), Eeli Tolvanen (+250), and Matty Beniers (+280) have the best odds for the Kraken.

Seattle Kraken

The Seattle Kraken (18-14-7) have been on an absolute tear lately. They have won two straight games, and have posted an impressive record of 6-0-1 over their last seven games. They are now just three points from first place in the Pacific Division, with one game in hand over the Vegas Golden Knights. This is a huge opportunity for the Kraken.

During this seven-game point streak, their defence has been incredible. They are giving up an average of 1.86 goals per game and have frustrated the offensive efforts of their opponents. This could pose challenges for Calgary, which scores at a sixth-worst rate of 2.66 per game and has the NHL’s worst power play of 14.6 per cent.

Missing only Jaden Schwartz from the main roster due to injury, their lineup is fully intact for this matchup. I expect the Kraken to be fully energized for their second straight road game.

Calgary Flames

The Calgary Flames (18-19-4) kicked the new year off with a close 4-3 loss to the Nashville Predators. However, this closed out what was an impressive three-game winning streak for the Flames. They have not played a ton of hockey as of late (four games since December 23), but while they are on home ice and will be quite rested, they are welcoming a tough challenge.

Calgary is without stud young defenceman Zayne Parekh as he is with Team Canada in the World Juniors, and they are also missing depth piece John Beecher. They are missing minimal pieces but their depth is weak as it is.

NHL Prediction: Who Will Win Kraken vs. Flames?

Any division game in the NHL can bring out the best in teams, but I see this game going one way. Seattle is absolutely tearing through the league right now and I do not see them stopping. Their committee style of play has suffocated teams, and as Calgary doesn’t possess a high level of firepower, it will likely be that same frustrated outcome for them.

I see the Kraken winning this one 3-0 on the road.
