Kings vs. Oilers Prediction: NHL Betting Odds

The Oilers push for a playoff spot in the Western Conference has all but faded as they’re once again slumping. This time, they’ve dropped four of six with a number of the defeats being quite embarrassing. That includes Saturday’s loss at home to the hapless Ottawa Senators. Are they even worth looking at here as another sizable favorite?

Oilers vs. Kings Betting Analysis

The Kings will enter Monday night’s game against the Flames with a 12-19-3 record on the road so far this season. Los Angeles is coming off back-to-back wins over the San Jose Sharks and Anaheim Ducks on home ice, but is just 1-5-2 in its last eight games away from home. The Kings are just 3-15 in their last 18 games as a sports betting underdog.

Meanwhile, Edmonton is just 17-17-2 on home ice so far this season. The Oilers are 20-8 in their last 28 games as a home favorite of between -150 and -200 odds. However, Edmonton is just 7-15 in its last 22 home games overall. The Oilers are also 7-16 in their last 23 games versus Western Conference opponents.

Los Angeles Kings

The Kings enter on a two-game winning streak but keep in mind this team has lost 16 of 20. They showed signs of life in back-to-back wins over San Jose and Anaheim, scoring four goals in each of those two victories. Dustin Brown has picked up his production with two goals and four points in his last three games. Anze Kopitar continues to produce with a goal and three points over that same span.

The problem for the Kings is that they have been very inconsistent at the offensive end of the ice all season. On top of that, they have also struggled to keep pucks out of their own net. Jonathan Quick should be back between the pipes after Jack Campbell got the nod against the Calgary Flames on Monday. Quick owns a 3.81 goals-against average and a .866 save percentage so far this season. He’s allowed at least three goals in a start in nine of his last 11 outings. Another effort like that is likely to sink the Kings.

Edmonton Oilers

The Oilers need to jump on the Kings early in this one and really make sure they don’t let them get any confidence through the first two periods. The Kings will be in a back-to-back situation on the road, so they should be fatigued.

Any hope the Oilers have begins with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl up front. McDavid has produced 108 points so far this season, which is the second-most in the NHL behind only Nikita Kucherov of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Meanwhile, Leon Draisaitl has 43 goals and 95 points.

The big question will be whether Mikko Koskinen and do the job between the pipes. Koskinen owns a 2.87 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage this season. However, he gave up four goals in the loss to Ottawa and tends to suffer lapses. He’s been more reliable at home, going 13-7-2 with a .920 save percentage (compared to 10-11-3 with a an .896 save percentage on the road) but he’s really hard to trust. The Oilers have lost four of his last six starts.
