Los Angeles Kings vs. Edmonton Oilers Game 6 Prediction, NHL Playoff Odds

Edmonton is a -155 home favourite on the NHL odds with a total of 5.5 goals.

Kings vs. Oilers NHL Betting Odds

We finally had a road team win in the series as the Oilers prevailed 3-1 in Los Angeles on Tuesday night – only the Kings’ seventh regulation home loss all season – to take a 3-2 series lead. It was also the first game with fewer than seven total goals scored in the series.

On the updated series line, Edmonton is now -400 (was -115 entering Game 4) with Los Angeles at +310 (was -105). I had thought the Kings would win in seven because they had been so dominant on home ice but now believe it ends in six.

The Oilers are 14-1 all-time in a best-of-seven series when they lead it 3-2, and are 8-1 in those that started on the road. They are 18-9 overall in Game 6s and 11-7 at home. The Kings are 5-9 all-time when trailing 3-2, and 1-2 when starting said series at home. They are 15-10 overall in Game 6s and 2-4 on the road.

On the updated odds to win the West, Edmonton is back in the favoured role at +340 with Los Angeles now +1500.

Los Angeles Kings

After scoring six goals in each of their first two home games of the series, the Kings only got a second-period power play goal from Andrei Kuzmenko, his third goal of the series, for a 1-0 lead in Game 5 but lost that lead soon after on the way to the 3-1 loss.

Adrian Kempe had a helper on that goal to reach a team-leading 10 points in this postseason. He tied the team record set by Wayne Gretzky (1991) and Daryl Evans (1982) in terms of fewest games to reach 10 points in a single postseason. Kempe became only the fourth Kings player in the previous 30 years to record 10 points in a playoff series.

Los Angeles was outshot 46-22 but was the more physical team (outhit Edmonton 59-46) and dominated in the face-off circle (won 58.9 per cent of draws).

Despite three straight losses, it’s very unlikely the Kings bench starting goalie Darcy Kuemper as he was terrific in the Game 5 loss with 43 saves. The over is 6-1 in the Kings’ past seven games.

Edmonton Oilers

Clearly, Calvin Pickard is now Edmonton’s primary goaltender in this postseason after he won a third straight start Tuesday since replacing Games 1-2 starter Stuart Skinner. Pickard stopped 21 of 22 shots in the 3-1 victory in Game 5.

Evander Kane’s second goal of the series tied the game at 1-1 at 6:16 of the second, Mattias Janmark’s second of the series proved the winner at 7:12 of the third, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins’ second of the series on an empty net at 19:02 was the clincher. Janmark has already matched his goal total from the regular season.

Leon Draisaitl had an assist for his 19th straight playoff game with a point vs. the Kings, tying Mark Messier (also vs. Los Angeles) and Wayne Gretzky (vs. Calgary) for the longest point streak against one franchise in Stanley Cup playoff history. Draisaitl is set at over/under 1.5 points for this one and over at +110.

Edmonton has recorded three consecutive postseason comeback wins for the first time in franchise history. The last team to achieve the feat was Vegas in 2023 when it won four straight.

Since the start of the third period of Game 4 that ended in an overtime win, the Oilers have outscored the Kings 6-1 and outshot them 79-34. Edmonton is 9-2 in its past 11 at home vs. L.A.
