Islanders vs. Flyers Game 5 Prediction, Stanley Cup Playoff Odds

For the first time this postseason the Flyers have lost back-to-back games. They now face elimination Tuesday against a technically-sound New York Islanders squad.

Stopping 36 of 38 pucks thrown his way, backup netminder Thomas Greiss earned the Isles their 3-2 win Sunday night. Brock Nelson’s two goals played a huge role for New York in Game 4 as well. After Nelson gave New York a two-goal lead in the third, it was all but over for Philly.

Islanders vs. Flyers Betting Analysis

Predictable is an understatement when it comes to New York’s gameplay. Once again, it was the “convert on our chances, lock it down once we get a lead” strategy deployed by Barry Trotz’s team during Sunday’s win.

The total pushed for the first time this series and the series record is now 2-1-1 in favour of the under. As far as these teams’ past 10 contests, the over still has the edge with a 6-3-1 record.

For the first time since Game 3 against Washington, the Islanders did not cover the puckline in a winning effort. With the Flyers seemingly down and out, oddsmakers have New York -1.5 at +223 and it seems like a good play at this point.

New York Islanders

With the Islanders now 10-3 in the bubble and one win away from their first Conference Final in 26 years, it’s almost a given Trotz and Co. will be booking a flight to Edmonton sooner than later.

Greiss getting his first postseason win Sunday means it’s fair to say everyone on New York is getting it done. Josh Bailey leads the way with 13 points but nine Islanders have multiple goals in the playoffs. With only six Isles ranking in the top 50 postseason scorers, it’s consistently been a collective effort for this team.

The Islanders needed two chances to put Washington out of the bubble last round; all signs point to New York needing one chance this time around with Philadelphia.

Philadelphia Flyers

Sean Couturier’s gotten off his cold streak with two goals in the past three outings, but slumps throughout this Flyers roster still exist. At the forefront are Travis Konecny and Claude Giroux , who remain scoreless in the bubble.

Neither Oskar Lindblom taking warmups — he was later healthy scratched — for the first time since beating cancer or Brian Elliott manning the crease gave Philly a spark in Game 4.

Winning Tuesday’s contest will be the hardest one of three necessary wins if Philadelphia is to keep their season alive. It’s slim chances, but Philly has the talent to at least do some damage.
