Philadelphia Flyers vs. Toronto Maple Leafs Prediction, NHL Odds
Two crucial points are up for grabs in Toronto when the Philadelphia Flyers roll into town for a bout with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday night.
The Maple Leafs are still searching for their first win since the Olympic break, and time is ticking on a potential playoff push. Toronto’s currently 27-24-9 on the season and eight points out of the final playoff spot in the East. Philadelphia remains on the outside looking in, sitting two points ahead of Toronto.
The Flyers are coming off a pair of wins, most recently playing on Saturday and defeating Boston 3-1. Saturday was Toronto’s last outing too, but they had a less than desirable outcome when they fell 5-2 on home ice to rival Ottawa… as the pressure keeps mounting in Toronto. Puck drop at Scotiabank Arena goes at 7:30 p.m. EST with the Maple Leafs a -135 moneyline favourite at home and the over-under at six on the NHL odds.
Flyers vs. Maple Leafs NHL Betting Odds
A trio of losses since the Olympic break has put the Maple Leafs playoff odds at +1100. Toronto has made the post-season nine straight seasons, meaning this could be the first time Auston Matthews isn’t playing for a Stanley Cup come late April. The Flyers’ playoff odds are at +500, but a win for either club on Monday could do wonders in sparking a run as we enter the last full month of the NHL regular season.
Toronto’s lost six straight contests on home ice, but on the flip side are 6-0 in their last six games hosting the Flyers. Monday’s the last of three meetings between these clubs; the Leafs won 5-2 at Philadelphia on November 1, and 2-1 win in overtime on January 8. Easton Cowan scored the overtime winner in their last meeting and also scored in the November win. The over has hit in eight of the last 11 Toronto–Philadelphia matchups.
Philadelphia Flyers
Fresh legs seem to be doing wonders for the Flyers since the Olympic break. Travis Konecny, a member of Team Canada at the Four Nations but not the Olympics, scored his team-leading 23rd goal on Saturday and added a primary assist on the game-winning tally in the 3-1 win over Boston. Konecny has quietly hovered right around a point-per-game the past four seasons and will need to keep that up and then some if the Flyers are to make a post-season push. Matvei Michkov has made his mark too, scoring twice including the overtime winner in a game on Thursday at New York. Michkov now has 31 points and 15 goals in 58 games this season.
Expect Dan Vladar to be between the pipes on Monday; Vladar is 18-9-6 on the season with a .907 save percentage and has been red hot lately, posting a .936 save percentage in four games across February.
Toronto Maple Leafs
The Leafs have been outscored 14-5 in three multi-goal losses since returning to play, indicating that this season may be lost. Frustrations are predictably growing on and off the ice, as all areas of Toronto’s game continue to show inconstancies. Toronto’s allowed a minimum of four goals in each of their three losses last week, and Joseph Woll wasn’t able to survive the full game against Ottawa on Saturday after stopping 23 of 28 shots faced. Anthony Stolarz came in to replace Woll, but Stolarz is going through a rough season — an .885 save percentage is currently a career low for the 32-year-old.
Auston Matthews hasn’t scored in seven games, and he’s now under a point per game. The Leafs rank 14th in goals this season (3.2 per game), and if this holds it would be the first time since 2015–16 that the Leafs finish outside the top 10 in scoring. And 2015–16 just happens to be the last season Toronto missed the Stanley Cup playoffs.
