The Capitals open a five-game road trip in Edmonton riding a four-game win streak, capped by Saturday’s 4-1 victory over Pittsburgh, and now enjoy a five-point lead over Toronto in the race for the top spot in the Eastern Conference standings.
The Oilers return home perched as -135 home favourites on the Tuesday NHL odds. The Capitals trail as +115 underdogs and the total is set at 5.5.

Tuesday night’s matchup marks the first of two regular season meetings between these clubs. Pierre-Luc Dubois contributed a goal and an assist in Saturday’s win over the Penguins and has recorded nine points in his past 10 games but has picked up just one total point in four road outings. Alex Ovechkin remains 20 goals shy of Wayne Gretzky’s NHL record after being held off the scoresheet on Saturday but have bulged the twine in eight of his past 10 road appearances, racking up 12 total goals over that stretch.

The Oilers have emerged as the hottest team on home ice since opening the season with wins in just two of their first eight dates at Rogers Place. The club has won 13 of 15 home games since and have surrendered just eight total goals while winning their past six. However, the club must not take the ice for the next three games without Connor McDavid, who was suspended on Monday for a nasty but understandable crosscheck to the face of Conor Garland in Saturday’s loss to the Canucks.
