There’s one story when it comes to the Toronto Raptors to start the season: the return of Kawhi Leonard.

With Leonard back in the fold, Toronto is looking to take another step forward in 2026-27 after breaking a three-year playoff drought last year and pushing the Cleveland Cavaliers to seven games.

How will the Raptors fare in a deep Eastern Conference? Let’s get into it.

You can also see our preview and prediction for Game 1 as Toronto opens the season as 9.5-point home favourites against the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday.

Raptors 2026-27 team futures

NBA Finals winner: +2500

Eastern Conference champion: +900

Atlantic Division winner: +650

Regular season win total: Over 46.5 (-120), Under 46.5 (+100)

Make/miss playoffs: Make (-275), Miss (+220)

Playoff seed: Over 6.5 (-115), Under 6.5 (-115)

Raptors 46.5 regular season wins

With Toronto’s regular season win total set at 46.5, it seems like a no-brainer to take the Over.

The Dinos have improved their win total for three straight seasons and adding Kawhi while keeping Scottie Barnes, RJ Barrett and the core of the team together should easily add a few more dubs to last year’s 46-win team.

Raptors to make playoffs

This is another easy choice and it’s worth digging deeper into the Kawhi trade to explain why.

Normally, adding a player of Kawhi’s value would cost a core pice of your roster as part of the package.  However, the only roster players Toronto gave up were Brandon Ingram and Gradey Dick. Ingram averaged 6.4 points per game less than Kawhi last season and Dick was designated to a bench role with only one start in 2025-26.

The Eastern Conference won’t be easy this season, but outside of Philadelphia, Boston, New York and Detroit, the Raptors should be able to beat out any other team.

Toronto Raptors: To make the playoffs

Raptors playoff seed 6.5

So, we’ve established Toronto as a playoff team this season, but what seed will they claim?

It will be tough for the Raptors to secure a top-four seed over Philadelphia, Boston, New York and Detroit. But, that still leaves an opportunity to avoid the play-in tournament by locking in the fifth or sixth seed like they did last year as the No. 5 team in the East.

Cleveland and Miami will likely be Toronto’s biggest competition for the fifth and sixth seeds. The Raptors proved they can hang with the Cavs in last year’s playoffs and the Heat are still a year away from surrounding Ginannis Antetokounmpo with enough support to be a real threat.

Take Toronto to finish with the No. 5 or No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference.

Raptors NBA Finals winner

The Raptors are priced at a juicy +2500 to win the NBA Finals, but fans should be cautious when sprinkling anything on this play.

Kawhi is 1-for-1 when it comes to delivering a title in his history with Toronto, but he’s eight years older and on the wrong side of 35. This isn’ 27-year-old Kawhi in his prime.

Even if the Raptors can get through the gauntlet of the Eastern Conference, they still have two possible heavyweight contenders to face in the Finals with either the OKC Thunder or the San Antonio Spurs likely coming out of the West.

MVP: Kawhi Leonard (+15,000)

Defensive Player of the Year: Scottie Barnes (+4000)

Coach of the Year: Darko Rajakovic (+825)

Sixth Man of the Year: Jamal Shead (+8000)

Kawhi Leonard MVP

While Kawhi has two NBA Finals MVPs to his name, he’s never taken home the regular season award and it seems like a long shot that he’ll do it at 35-years-old.

Kawhi simply doesn’t play enough games. He averaged 55 games over six seasons (not counting missing the entire 2021-22 season) since he left Toronto, which means there’s a good chance he won’t meet the 65-game threshold to even be eligible for the award.

Bottom line, the Raps acquired Kawhi for the playoffs, not how many games he can give them in the regular season.

Scottie Barnes Defensive Player of the Year

Barnes continues to develop into a legit NBA star and he is coming off his first career selection on the NBA All-Defensive Second Team. He also finished fifth in voting for Defensive Player of the Year last season.

Barnes recorded career-highs in both steals (1.4) and blocks (1.5) last season. If he continues to improve those numbers, he should be in the DPOY conversation.

The main threat to Barnes winning this award is clearly San Antonio Spurs stud Victor Wembanyama, last year’s unanimous DPOY winner.

Darko Rajakovic Coach of the Year

Darko Rajakovic enters the season with with second-shortest odds to win Coach of the Year (+825), just trailing Will Hardy (+800) of the Utah Jazz.

Rajakovic has a legit shot at this award and I’ll certainly be sprinkling something on it. The Serbian has improved the Raptors’ record every season since taking over, going from 25 wins in 2023-24 to 46 last season.

I also think the tougher Eastern Conference helps Rajakovic’s case. Everyone expects the Sixers, Knicks, Celtics and Pistons to be the top contenders, so if Toronto can knock one of those teams out of a top-four playoff seed, it has to bring Rajakovic some votes for Coach of the Year.

Jamal Shead Sixth Man of the Year

Jamal Shead hasn’t been well-heralded outside of Toronto, but that changed in last year’s seven-game playoff series loss against Cleveland.

In that series, Shead averaged 9.0 ppg, 5.0 assists, 2.0 rebounds and 1.4 steals while playing 32 minutes a night. If he can replicate those numbers during the regular season he’ll have a strong case for Sixth Man of the Year.
