There are just 18 games left in the regular season for the Canadiens, and they find themselves six points out of third place in their division and eight points out of the second Eastern Conference wild card position. They’ll need to go on a serious run if they have any intentions toward a postseason run.

Canucks vs. Canadiens Betting Analysis

The Vancouver Canucks record so far this season is 33-22-6, putting them in third in the Pacific. The Montreal Canadiens’ 29-27-8 record places them at sixth in the Atlantic Division.

The Habs are 13-15-5 at home and the Canucks are 13-15-2 on the road.

The two teams last played on December 17th, and Montreal came away with a 3-1 win. Max Domi earned two points for the Habs that night. The Canucks have struggled against Montreal of late, going 0-6-2 since a 5-1 home victory in 2015. The ‘Nucks haven’t won in Montreal since 2011 when they earned a hard fought shootout victory at Bell Centre.

This will be the final time these two teams meet this season, and the Canucks will try to avoid another season sweep.

Vancouver Canucks

The Vancouver Canucks are coming off of a huge home win against one of their most hated rivals – the league-leading Boston Bruins. That game ended their five-game homestand. The final score was 9-3 in that win over the Bruins, and it was a great game for Tyler Toffoli, who scored twice in his second game in a Canucks jersey. Elias Pettersson scored his 25th of the hockey year as well, to put him just behind team-leading JT Miller for points. Pettersson now has 59,  JT Miller has 62. Miller had three assists against the Bruins.

There was some bad news out of that routing of Boston, however, as Jacob Markstrom was injured. Markstrom is now listed with a lower-body injury, which led to the single trade the Canucks made on deadline day – a goalie trade with the New Jersey Devils in which they picked up Louis Domingue for Zane McIntyre. Domingue will back up Thatcher Demko tonight in Montreal.

Montreal Canadiens

The Canadiens finished up a three-game road trip on Saturday in Ottawa, where they came away with a 3-0 shutout of the Sens. That made it two wins in a row for the Canadiens, who prior to the Saturday win, shocked the Capitals in Washington with an overtime victory. Max Domi finally scored his first goal in nine games against the Senators, and Carey Price looked sharp, making 30 saves and earning his 48th career shutout.

The lineups will look a little different tonight, as the Canadiens were very active during the trade period. Ilya Kovalchuk is now a Washington Capital. Nate Thompson now wears a Philadelphia Flyers jersey and Nick Cousins is the newest member of the Vegas Golden Knights. Jake Evans has been recalled from the AHL’s Laval Rocket.
