Vancouver Canucks vs. Colorado Avalanche Prediction, NHL Odds
The Vancouver Canucks and Colorado Avalanche are set to meet for the third and final time of the season Wednesday in Denver. Colorado has taken the first two meetings by scores of 5-4 (OT) and 3-1, and is now looking to complete the season sweep.
These teams enter this contest in very different places in the Western Conference standings. In fact, the Avalanche and Canucks are at opposite ends of the standings. Colorado’s 108 points are the most in the NHL, while Vancouver’s 50 points are the fewest. The Avalanche seem poised for another run at the Stanley Cup, while the Canucks have already set the wheels in motion for a major rebuild.
Canucks vs. Avalanche NHL Betting Odds
The visiting Canucks own a record of 21-44-8 and the league’s worst goal differential at -90. On the other side, the Avalanche are 49-14-10 on the season, owning the league’s best goal differential at +92. Given the significant disparity between these teams in the standings, it’s not surprising to see oddsmakers heavily favouring the Avalanche. Colorado enters at -440 on the NHL odds while Vancouver’s at +340 on the moneyline.
When it comes to the puckline, Colorado at a rare -2.5 carries odds of -115 while Vancouver +2.5 has odds of -105. On the season, the Avalanche are 37-36-0 against the spread while the Canucks are 31-42-0. The game total is 6.5 with odds of -105 for the Over and -115 for the Under. Vancouver has played in plenty of high-scoring games this season, as the Over is 40-30-3 for the Canucks. Conversely, the Avalanche tend to play in lower-scoring games, as the Under is 39-39-4 in their 73 games.
With odds of -115, Colorado’s Nathan MacKinnon has the shortest odds of any player to score a goal in this game. MacKinnon is putting together yet another elite season and leads the league with 49 goals. Martin Necas (+125) and Brock Nelson (+175) aren’t far behind him in the goal-scoring market. With odds of +330, Brock Boeser has the shortest odds of any Canuck to find the back of the net. Boeser leads Vancouver with 18 goals.
Vancouver Canucks
The Canucks enter this contest riding a six-game losing streak. They have won just five games since the calendar flipped to 2026, and won just three of their 14 games in March. The Canucks are the only team in the Western Conference to be mathematically eliminated from the postseason already, and it seems that a lengthy rebuild is already in motion. Vancouver made the move to trade away superstar defenceman Quinn Hughes in December and traded Kiefer Sherwood to San Jose in January. Those moves really signalled the start of a complete rebuild, and at this point in the season, the Canucks are just looking to close out the 2025-26 campaign.
Consistent goal-scoring has been tough to come by for Vancouver this season. The Canucks rank dead last in the NHL, scoring a measly 2.49 goals per game. Defensively, Vancouver is allowing a league-high 3.77 goals per game, which doesn’t make for a winning formula. Things will only get more difficult for the Canucks in this road matchup against the Avalanche.
Colorado Avalanche
The Avalanche enter this matchup coming off a 9-2 stomping of the Flames on Monday night. Seven different players scored a goal for the Avalanche, with Nazem Kadri potting a pair of goals and Cale Makar dishing out a trio of assists. The Avalanche have won five of their last six games to continue their regular-season dominance at the top of the NHL standings. The Avalanche own one of the best home ice advantages in the NHL, as the high altitude and raucous atmosphere make it an extremely tough place to play. They’ve made sure to take advantage, as they are strong 24-7-5 on home ice.
Nathan MacKinnon has already hit the 120-point mark and is third in the league with 120 points. His teammate Martin Necas isn’t far behind, as he ranks sixth in the NHL with 92 points. Makar (75 points) and Brock Nelson (61 points) give Colorado a well-rounded offensive group that is tough to slow down. The Canucks will surely have their hands full.
NHL Prediction: Who Will Win Canucks vs. Avalanche?
As long as the Avalanche don’t get complacent, they should be able to take care of business in this one. Colorado boasts far more elite scoring pieces than Vancouver, and with the Canucks playing several youngsters with limited NHL experience, the Avalanche also have a significant edge when it comes to experience.
Playing on home ice, I expect Colorado to win this game convincingly by a score of 4-1.
