St. Louis Blues vs. Minnesota Wild Game 1 Prediction, NHL Odds

These two teams have been battling all season to see who would get home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Minnesota was able to get the second seed based on points, not based on regulation wins. The Blues have more regulation wins with 43 compared to the Wild’s 37. Minnesota picked up the second seed and home ice advantage, however, because of overtime points.

With that being said, the Wild are -161 to win the series with the most likely outcome of six or seven games pegged as the favourite at +300. Game 1 is scheduled for Monday at 9:30 pm ET with the Wild favoured to win at -143 on the moneyline and the total at 6.0 goals on the NHL odds.

Blues vs. Wild NHL Playoffs Betting Odds

The Blues went 3-0 against the Wild this season. Usually, regular season stats do not matter entering the playoffs, but teams that won the season series are 65-48 in the playoffs.

Though the home team is 5-1 over the last six meetings, the numbers favour the road team Blues. St. Louis is 13-3 in the last six meetings, including 5-2 in their last seven trips to Minnesota.

This is the third time the Blues and Wild have met in the playoffs. The teams split the previous meetings, each advancing as the underdog. Minnesota won in 2015 in six games while St. Louis won in 2017 in five games.

St. Louis Blues

The Blues had a great season, led largely by their offence. St. Louis averaged 3.81 goals per game and was led by the resurgent Vladimir Tarasenko with 82 points. Tarasenko also led all players with 34 goals. St. Louis has a well-balanced lineup that reminds a lot of people of when they won the Stanley Cup in 2019. Just look at the numbers on offence as the Blues had nine players score 20 or more goals. That will be difficult to stop.

Defensively, the Blues are stacked, led by Justin Faulk and Torey Krug. St. Louis gave up an average of 2.95 goals per game. Not to mention their goaltending has been solid thanks to Ville Husso. However, if Husso falters there is of course Jordan Binnington.

Minnesota Wild

Like St. Louis, Minnesota was a great offensive team, averaging 3.77 goals per game. Minnesota was led offensively by Kirill Kaprizov. Kaprizov followed up his rookie campaign with 108-points, leading all Wild players in every offensive category. In addition to Kaprizov, Kevin Fiala set a career-high with 33 goals. And similar to the Blues, Minnesota had six players score 20 or more goals this season.

While the offence was good, the defence struggled, giving up 3.07 goals per game. Minnesota’s defence has to keep St. Louis in check. Luckily they have two solid goalies in Marc-Andre Fleury and Cam Talbot.
