Not every team is going to have a breakout year with a young QB like the Packers and Texans did in last year or the Broncos and Commanders are this season. The Colts are still trying to figure things out with Anthony Richardson. Last week’s 31-13 loss to Denver was particularly dispiriting, especially since it hurt their postseason chances. As for the Titans, to put it succinctly, they’re crawling to the finish line at 3-11.

Our NFL odds think the Colts will stay alive, with Indy currently perched as -3.5 favourites.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

This Sunday concludes the two-game regular season series between these AFC South foes. Indianapolis edged Tennessee 20-17 back in October in Nashville. The Colts have won the last three head-to-head meetings, although the Titans had conquered their opponents five times in a row before that. Those were the Mike Vrabel-coached Titans, a very different era.

Fun fact: five of the past six games between these rivals were decided by seven points or less. Two required overtime and were won on walk-off field goals.

The funny thing about the news this week that QB Will Levis will be on the bench this week is that the Titans aren’t the worst passing attack in the NFL. They’re not good (26th in yards per game), but not the worst. The problem is the turnovers, which Levis unfortunately excels at. He’s thrown 12 picks to equal his 12 TDs. Mason Rudolph isn’t much better: five TDs and six Ints. Betters should be frightened of that 2-12 ATS tally.

Not that Richardson should be laughing at his opposite numbers. He’s thrown seven majors and been picked off 11 times this season. For what it’s worth, the Colts are an okay 8-6 against the spread. Then again, they’ve failed to cover thrice in a row. Moreover, they’ve only covered once in their last six games. That was against…the Jets. A LOT of players are banged up: WR Michael Pittman Jr. (back), WR Ashton Dulin (ankle) and TE Mo Alie-Cox (hip) are all listed as questionable.

Tennessee Titans

Do not be fooled by the somewhat respectable-looking 37-27 final score from last week’s defeat to the Cincinnati Bengals. It was a patently mediocre day of football and much, much worse for the Titans. Even Bengals QB Joe Burrow was spotted pouting towards the end, and his team won the game!

It’s wild to think that the Titans even held a 14-7 lead in the second quarter courtesy of red zone rushes from RB Tony Pollard and Tyjae Sears. What followed was a comically inept display of attacking football by both sides, as they combined for 10 turnovers; four by the Bengals and six by the Titans. Levis accounted for three of them via picks and Rudoph for one. Levis also lost a fumble, unbelievably enough.

To their credit, Daryl Worley and Luke Gifford both picked off Burrow, not an easy feat.

Indianapolis Colts

Oh dear, what in the world happened in Denver against the Broncos last week? The 31-13 loss surely stands as one of the most deflating for the Colts this season.

The worst part is that they actually led 13-10 when the final quarter commenced. The defence had even picked off Bo Nix three times. Yet this Indy outfit struggles so much to get out of its funk when it’s in it (which is often), the most bone-headed mistakes happen. Look no further than Denver’s 50-yard “fumble” return in the fourth quarter that made it 24-13. While labelled a fumble, it was a lateral pass from WR Adonai Mitchell back to Richardson that Nik Bonitto read all the way.

Indy’s sophomore QB finished the day 17-for-38, 172 yards, no TDs and two INTs. RB Jonathan Taylor once again was the lone bright spot, rumbling for 107 yards on 22 touches.
