Titans vs. Chiefs Point Spread: NFL Week 9 Odds, Prediction
It’s a matchup of AFC division leaders on Sunday night in Week 9 as the Tennessee Titans visit the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs are 12.5-point favourites to win on the NFL odds.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Tennessee won the AFC South last year and probably will again in 2022. Kansas City wins the AFC West just about every year and should again as well so these teams could meet in the playoffs.
They played Week 7 in Nashville last regular season and the Chiefs had one of their worst games of the Patrick Mahomes era in losing 27-3. It was 27-0 at the half. Ryan Tannehill threw for 270 yards and a score and rushed for a touchdown, while Derrick Henry rushed for 86 yards and threw a TD pass on a trick play. Mahomes was 20-for-35 for 206 yards and a pick with a lost fumble and eventually left with a head injury. The three points were the fewest for the Chiefs since a 38-3 loss to Denver on Dec. 30, 2012.
Tennessee is 5-1 against the spread in the past six meetings.
Tennessee Titans
The Titans won their fifth in a row Sunday, 17-10 in Houston, despite playing without starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill due to an ankle injury – he didn’t even travel, so it’s hard to know if he will play here. Backup Malik Willis looked like the raw rookie he is, completing just 6-for-10 for 55 yards and a pick. Derrick Henry was the work horse with 219 yards and two scores on 32 carries. It was Henry’s fourth straight 200-yard game against the Texans, making him the first player in NFL history to have at least 150 yards and two touchdowns on the ground in four consecutive games against the same opponent. The former Heisman winner has now rushed for 200 or more yards in six career games overall, tying him with OJ Simpson and Adrian Peterson for the most ever. The Titans are 5-0 ATS in their past five.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs come out of their bye at 5-2 and their two losses were by a combined seven points to Indianapolis and Buffalo. Kansas City played maybe its best game in Week 7, trashing a good 49ers team 44-23 in Santa Clara despite trailing 10-0 early. Patrick Mahomes threw for 423 yards and three TDs. Speedy receiver Mecole Hardman caught a TD pass and ran for two. The comeback improved Kansas City to 13-9 with Mahomes when falling behind by at least 10 points. Kansas City made a very interesting trade during the bye week in landing New York Giants receiver Kadarius Toney, a 2021 first-round pick, for a 2023 third-round conditional draft pick and a 2023 sixth-round selection. Toney had missed the Giants’ past five games because of hamstring injuries. That’s really been his problem: Staying healthy. Toney does have major upside and if anyone can bring that out, it’s Mahomes and Coach Andy Reid. The Chiefs are 0-4 ATS in their past four at home.
