Texans vs. Patriots Point Spread: NFL Week 6 Odds, Prediction

These are two teams headed in very different directions. It’s been all gravy for Houston, who lead the AFC South with a 4-1 record following a 23-20 statement win over Buffalo last week. On the flip side, the Patriots are 1-4 and once again struggled to put points on the board in a 15-10 home loss against Miami in Week 5.

The Texans opened as seven-point favourites to win on the NFL odds, with the total set at 39.5.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Houston has covered in three straight head-to-heads against New England, but the teams haven’t met since Week 5 of the 2021 season. New England won that contest 25-22 on the road. There’s been significant changes to both franchises since that game, with both starting quarterbacks and head coaches having moved on to other organizations.

The Texans and Patriots are each 1-3-1 against the spread for the season. Houston has generally struggled to cover on the road, going 2-4 ATS in their last six games away from NRG Stadium. That luck could change this week as New England is just 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games against AFC South opponents.

Something’s gotta give this week as the Pats have lost seven straight home games, but they’ve actually won their last seven home games against the Texans.

Houston Texans

C.J. Stroud continues to impress after throwing for 331 yards, one touchdown and one interception last week. Last season’s Offensive Rookie of the Year ranks third in passing yards on the year (1,385) while throwing seven TDs and three interceptions. Last week also pitted receiver Stefon Diggs against his former Bills team. Diggs finished with a game-high 82 receiving yards on six catches in the revenge game.

The big concern entering Week 6 is the status of the NFL’s leading receiver, Nico Collins, who left last week’s game in the first quarter after hauling in a 67-yard touchdown. Collins, who still put up 78 receiving yards last week, is dealing with a hamstring injury. It’s a huge blow to the Texans as Collins has been added to the IR, so he will miss at least the next four games. That makes Diggs the No. 1 option going forward, while Tank Dell and Xavier Hutchinson should get more touches.

New England Patriots

New England’s scoring woes continued last week as they failed to crack 20 points for the fourth time in five games. The Patriots’ average of just 12.4 points per game is the second-worst mark in the NFL and it’s been getting worse, with the team averaging just 8.7 ppg over the last three weeks. Quarterback Jacoby Brissett struggled to produce anything last week, completing 18 of 31 pass attempts for 160 yards, while finishing without a touchdown pass for the third time in five games.

Head coach Jerod Mayo has finally seen enough from Brissett as he announced he will start rookie Drake Maye againt Houston. Maye, the third overall pick in this year’s draft, completed four of eight pass attempts for 22 yards in his only regular season action this year. It could be a recipe for disaster as New England has one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL. Don’t hold your breath for a miracle from Maye.
