Texans vs. Jets Point Spread: NFL Week 14 Odds, Prediction

On one hand the 7-5 Texans appear to have their future franchise quarterback in C.J. Stroud. Then there’s the New York Jets, whiffing on quarterback after quarterback and rolling out the likes of Tim Boyle and Trevor Siemian in hopeless attempts to salvage any sort of playoff dream.

At 4-8 and with five consecutive losses, those dreams appear to be squashed for New York. But the Jets have played the spoiler role well this season, defeating Buffalo and Philadelphia on home field and playing Kansas City extremely close. And for the Texans, suddenly the AFC South crown is in the possibility making something for New York to potentially spoil.

Kickoff at MetLife Stadium gets started at 1 p.m. EST with Houston a 5.5-point road favourite and the over-under at 33 on the NFL odds.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The over-under line of 33 gives some well-deserved respect toward the Texans defence that had a monster second half last week against Denver. Houston’s now a top-12 defence in points allowed this season (20.8) per game and are now 8-4 to the under this season. The Jets rank 13th in points allowed, but where the big difference lies is in points for. The Texans are top 10 in scoring with 23.4 points per game while the Jets are third-last with 14.3 points per game.

New York’s taken six of their last nine meetings with Houston though, and the Texans are 2-6-1 ATS in those contests. But overall the Texans have done well covering on the road, going 6-2 ATS in their last eight road games. The Jets have failed to cover in five consecutive weeks.

Houston Texans

Three second half interceptions, two coming via 2022 third overall pick Derek Stingley Jr., became the difference in a massive win last week for Houston over Denver. Jimmie Ward then iced the contest with a late interception in his own end zone. Another bright spot on Houston’s defence was 2023 third overall pick Will Anderson who had two sacks, four quarterback hits, and tipped a ball for an interception.

The win came at a cost though as breakout rookie receiver Tank Dell suffered a season-ending broken leg injury on a Texans touchdown. Nico Collins, Houston’s top receiver, put on a show though with nine grabs for 191 yards a score. Collins is nine yards short of his first 1,000-yard season in the NFL.

New York Jets

It’s Zach Wilson time… again. Head coach Robert Saleh announced Wednesday the team would be pivoting back toward Wilson as the starting quarterback despite some reports Wilson may refuse to play after his benching a couple weeks prior. Tim Boyle’s two-week run as QB1 went horribly though, from the Hell Mary play to a combined 21 points of offence in two starts. Since their bye week in Week 7, New York’s gone six straight weeks without scoring over 13 points. But the Jets defence hasn’t quit yet, allowing 16 or fewer points in four of those outings.

Running back Breece Hall missed Wednesday’s practice with an ankle injury. Hall has been New York’s top offensive weapon this season with 934 yards and home run ability on any touch, making his status one to watch as the week progresses.
