Texans vs. Chiefs Point Spread: NFL Week 14 Odds, Prediction

The Chiefs are priced at -3.5 on the NFL odds with a total of 41.5 points.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The winner of the Sunday night game between the Texans and Chiefs will own a massive head-to-head tiebreaker in regards to an AFC Wild-Card spot. It’s not out of the question yet that Houston wins the AFC South, but it is +310 to do so. Kansas City has won the AFC West nine straight years but that will not reach 10 with Denver the expected division champion and -650 favourite.

The NFL and its TV partners would be crushed if the mega-popular Chiefs missed the playoffs for the first time in the Patrick Mahomes Era. Another major tiebreaker after head-to-head is record inside the conference. Houston has the edge there at 6-2, while Kansas City is 3-4. So the Chiefs better win Sunday, and we think they do. Hard to bet against Mahomes in any big game. K.C. is +105 for the playoffs.

Including three playoff matchups, Kansas City is 11-5 vs. Houston. They met in the Divisional Round last post-season at Arrowhead Stadium and the Chiefs prevailed 23-14 as 10-point favourites. Mahomes didn’t have a huge day, but Travis Kelce did with seven catches for 117 yards and the lone Mahomes TD throw. The Texans outgained the Chiefs 336-212, but Houston QB C.J. Stroud was sacked eight times. Neither team had a turnover, which is somewhat rare.

Kansas City has won the past five meetings including playoffs.

Houston Texans

Few AFC teams are playing better than the Texans. They got starting QB C.J. Stroud back Sunday from a multi-game absence in the concussion protocol and were upset winners at Indianapolis, 20-16, for a fourth straight win – each victory by seven points or fewer. Houston, which started the season at 0-9 in one-score games, has largely been doing it with defence and held the Colts, who entered as the No. 1 scoring offence, to 281 yards. In his first game since suffering his head injury in Week 9 against the Broncos, Stroud went 22-of-35 for 276 passing yards with an interception. He was great on third downs, going 6-of-7 for 79 yards with a passer rating of 113.7. It appears the Texans got out of that game without any major injuries. Good-looking rookie tailback Woody Marks left with a foot problem but was able to return. They are 6-3 ATS in their past nine games.

Kansas City Chiefs

Kansas City’s sense of urgency got much higher after being upset in Dallas, 31-28, to lose for the third time in four games and fall back to .500. Now the Chiefs may well need to win out. In his first NFL start in AT&T Stadium, a little more than 100 miles from his hometown of Tyler, Texas, Patrick Mahomes threw four touchdown passes. But he finished the game without three of his starting linemen in right guard Trey Smith (right ankle), right tackle Jawaan Taylor (elbow) and rookie left tackle Josh Simmons (left wrist). Simmons suffered a dislocated and fractured wrist in the loss so he won’t be back soon. Not clear on Taylor, while Smith missed the game entirely. The six losses have tied a career regular-season high for Mahomes as a starter. He passed Dan Marino for the most career games (47) with at least three passing TDs in a player’s first nine seasons all-time. But last Thursday was the first time in the Mahomes era that the Chiefs fell in a game when their quarterback threw at least four touchdown passes and didn’t commit an interception. The Chiefs are 1-4 ATS in their past five.
