Saints vs. Packers Point Spread: NFL Week 16 Odds, Prediction
Green Bay opened as 13.5-point favourites on the NFL odds.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
I’m a little surprised this wasn’t flexed out simply for the Saints, but Green Bay is a major national draw so that’s probably why. And with the holidays upcoming, that might have made things more complicated moving this out regardless.
New Orleans will likely be starting completely from scratch next season – few teams are in worse overall shape in terms of roster talent and 2025 cap space — and definitely will have a new head coach as Dennis Allen was fired in early November. The team has played fairly well under interim coach Darren Rizzi, but he’s not considered a legitimate candidate for the full-time gig.
Green Bay needs just one victory in its final three games to clinch a playoff spot and could have clinched before taking the field Monday. The Packers aren’t officially eliminated from NFC North contention, but it would take a minor miracle for them to win that and they are +10000 longshots. They might be eliminated from that on Sunday in Week 16.
All 28 previous matchups between the franchises were in the regular season with Green Bay winning 18 of them and going 11-3 at home against New Orleans with a point differential of plus-127 (9.1 PPG). This is only the second Monday night matchup in the series and first at Lambeau. It’s also the latest-ever MNF game there in a calendar year.
New Orleans Saints
I’d like to tell you who will start at quarterback for New Orleans in Week 16, but I’m quite sure the Saints won’t have any idea until later this week. Usual starter Derek Carr missed Sunday’s 20-19 home loss to Washington with a hand injury and concussion. Jake Haener, a 2023 fourth-round pick, got the start against the Commanders but was benched after completing just 4-for-10 for 49 yards with a pick and three sacks taken. Spencer Rattler, a 2024 fifth-round pick, relieved Haener and nearly led a big comeback victory, but the Saints failed on the winning two-point PAT with no time left. Normally, a team in that situation kicks the PAT and goes to OT at home. I’d imagine it’s Rattler this week if Carr isn’t ready.
Top running back Alvin Kamara had a receiving TD to snap a seven-game touchdown drought and become only the fifth player in league history with at least 50 career rush TDs and 25 receiving scores. New Orleans has held opponents to 21 or fewer points in all five contests since interim head coach Darren Rizzi took over. The Saints had a season-high eight sacks in Sunday’s loss. Cameron Jordan had two of them for his 28th career multi-sack game to pass Hall of Famer Rickey Jackson for the team record. New Orleans is 1-4 ATS in its past five on the road.
Green Bay Packers
Green Bay could easily be the fourth-best team in the NFC as its only losses are to the three clubs ahead of it in the conference standings in Detroit (twice), Philadelphia and Minnesota. The Packers knocked off NFC West-leading Seattle 30-13 in the Pacific Northwest on Sunday night. Jordan Love threw for 229 yards and two scores, his fourth straight game without an INT after at least one in each of his first eight this year. Josh Jacobs had his fifth straight game with a rush TD, tied for the third-longest streak in franchise history since 1970.
Green Bay has scored at least 30 points in four consecutive games, the team’s longest streak in four years. Receiver Romeo Doubs, back after missing two games with a concussion and wearing a Guardian cap for extra protection, had two TD catches. Linebacker Edgerrin Cooper returned after missing the past three injured and became the first Packers rookie to record a sack and an interception in the same game since Esera Tuaolo during a 27-0 win over Tampa Bay on Oct. 27, 1991. Green Bay is 4-1 ATS in its past five games.
