Raiders vs. Giants Point Spread: NFL Week 9 Odds, Prediction
The Las Vegas Raiders must once again overcome off-field distractions as they prepare to visit the struggling New York Giants in NFL Week 9 action. The Raiders travel to the Big Apple riding a two-game straight up win streak. The Giants return home after dropping a heartbreaking 20-17 decision in Kansas City on Monday Night Football, and will be searching for just their second home victory of the 2021 campaign.
The Raiders are 3-point favourites to win on the NFL odds, with a total of 46.5.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The game line odds have fluctuated since opening with the Raiders favoured by 2.5 points in Sunday afternoon’s matchup at MetLife Stadium. Sports bettors are heavily backing Las Vegas, which has attracted 85 per cent of bets. But while the Raiders have improved slightly to 3-point road chalk, they sport relatively long +100 odds of covering the spread. With the UNDER attracting 63 per cent of bets, the total has steadily dipped to its current position at 46.5 after opening at 47.5.
Sunday’s contest marks the first meeting between these two teams since December 2017. The Raiders ended a three-game losing streak against New York with a 24-17 win in Oakland in their most recent matchup. They have covered just once in their past four overall clashes, but are 2-1 against the spread in their past three trips to New York. The total has finished UNDER 50 in six of the past eight meetings. The Raiders have also struggled to generate offence in recent road dates with the Giants, averaging fewer than 20 points per game over their past five visits. The Giants have endured a 2-6 start, but sport a respectable 4-4 against the spread record, and have covered in four of six outings while pegged as underdogs by four or fewer points.
Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders were faced with another massive off-field distraction earlier this week, when second-year receiver Henry Ruggs III was involved in a deadly car accident. The tragedy comes on the heels of Jon Gruden’s recent unexpected resignation as head coach under a cloud of controversy. However, the drama has not impacted results, with the Raiders posting decisive victories over Denver and Philadelphia in their past two outings. Well rested after enjoying a bye last week, the loss of Ruggs should be eased by the return of injured tight end Darren Waller. That is good news for quarterback Derek Carr, who has racked up an average of 332 passing yards and four total scoring passes during the team’s two-game surge.
New York Giants
The Giants squandered a fourth-quarter lead in Monday night’s loss to the Chiefs. Quarterback Daniel Jones turned in a respectable two-touchdown performance against the Chiefs, but has really operated with little help. In addition to connecting on just seven scoring passes against five picks, Jones has been sacked a total of nine times over the past three outings, and 17 times so far this season. A rash of injuries has slammed the team’s receiving corps, leaving the status of Sterling Shepard and Kenny Golladay uncertain. In addition, an outbreak of COVID-19 impacted 13 members of the organization this week, including star rusher Saquon Barkley.
