Panthers vs. Saints Point Spread: NFL Week 14 Odds, Prediction

Both clubs have spiralled to the bottom of the division, although the 1-11 Panthers currently own that spot — and the crown for the worst record in the NFL.

The 5-7 Saints have dropped three straight contests and have starting quarterback Derek Carr is injured again. Carr is back in the concussion protocol for the second time in three weeks and is now also dealing with a rib injury from the same play. If Carr can’t go against Carolina, it’s yet again Jameis Winston to fill in.

Kickoff at Caesars Superdome goes at 1 p.m. EST with the Saints still -4.5 on the spread and the total at 37.5 on the NFL odds.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Panthers and Saints are two of the three-worst teams against the spread this season. Carolina’s ATS record is slightly better than their outright record, as Carolina’s gone 3-8-1 ATS this season. New Orleans is even worse at 2-9-1 ATS. But over these teams last 12 meetings, it’s the Panthers are 8-3-1 ATS and Carolina’s covered in five of their last six trips to New Orleans.

Over the Saints three-game losing streak they’ve allowed a minimum of 24 points in each loss. But Carolina’s failed to even score 20 points since Week 6/October 15. The Panthers are one of four NFL teams scoring under 16 points a game which is what the doctor ordered for the Saints.

Carolina Panthers

Chris Tabor’s debut as Carolina’s interim head coach wasn’t a disaster by any means by the same result still came as the Panthers left Tampa Bay with a loss. The defeat dropped Carolina to 1-11 as they also became the NFL’s first eliminated club this season, hence why Tabor is now the fill-in leader for this disaster.

The positives? Carolina had a chance to go on a game-winning drive late but that went out the window when 2023 first overall pick Bryce Young tossed an interception. With 104 rushing yards on 25 carries Chuba Hubbard became Carolina’s first 100-yard rusher this season and scored twice in the process. Jonathan Mingo, the Panthers second-round pick this season, saw double-digit targets for the first time in his career and led Carolina with six catches for 69 yards. Hubbard and Mingo are two players to eye in on with this new coaching regime.

New Orleans Saints

Derek Carr was a limited participant in practice Wednesday and head coach Dennis Allen told media that Carr’s concussion is primarily what’s leaving his game status this week in doubt. Gadget quarterback/tight end Taysom Hill was a non-participant Wednesday with foot and hand injuries. It’s not just the QB position that’s banged up too as the Saints also placed safety Marcus Maye and defensive tackle Malcolm Roach on injured reserve.

Regardless of who’s under centre for New Orleans, it’s quite clear who they’re going to rely on offensively. Running back Alvin Kamara had another 20 touches for over 100 yards last weekend and found the end zone twice, while leading receiver Chris Olave caught a team-high five passes for 119 yards. Olave is 110 yards shy of his second 1,000-yard season in as many years.
