NFL Week 4 Power Rankings and Predictions: Chiefs Make Statement
NFL Power Rankings Week 4
1. Kansas City (3-0): The Chiefs were very rare underdogs Monday in Baltimore but thoroughly dominated the Ravens as Patrick Mahomes stayed unbeaten as a dog against the spread in his NFL career as a starting QB. Thing is, the Chiefs probably won’t be one again this season.
2. Green Bay (3-0): The Pack are the sixth team since the AFL-NFL merger to start 3-0 and score at least 35 points in every game.
3. Seattle (3-0): The Seahawks are the fifth team – doing it only a couple of hours ahead of the Packers – since the AFL-NFL merger to start 3-0 and score at least 35 points in every game. Russell Wilson is the first QB ever with at least four TD passes in each of his team’s three games. He’s the league MVP so far.
4. Baltimore (2-1): The Ravens had been in our No. 1 spot since the preseason, but they were outclassed Monday at home by Kansas City to see a 14-game regular-season winning streak end. Not time to panic but there are a few things to work on.
5. Pittsburgh (3-0): Yes, Ben Roethlisberger makes quite a bit of difference for Mike Tomlin over Mason Rudolph or Duck Hodges under centre. The Steelers were 0-3 last year without an injured Big Ben.
6. Buffalo (3-0): The Bills blew a 28-3 home lead to the Rams on Sunday and deserved to lose but were rescued by a very questionable pass interference call. QB Josh Allen is legit! He is the first player with at least 10 touchdown passes and two rushing touchdowns in his team’s first three games of a season in NFL history.
7. Tampa Bay (2-1): The Bucs didn’t look good Week 1 in New Orleans but have dominated in the two games since.
8. New England (2-1): We will find out how good the Patriots are this Sunday when they visit Kansas City.
9. Tennessee (3-0): This writer simply can’t get on the Titans’ bandwagon yet considering their three victories are by a combined six points. If they beat the Steelers on Sunday, I’ll jump on. Note: There’s a chance that game is postponed with a small COVID-19 outbreak on the Titans.
10. San Francisco (2-1): The Niners were missing just about every key player on their team in Week 3 due to injury yet still easily took care of business at the Jets.
11. Indianapolis (2-1): One usually doesn’t think of the Colts as a defence-first franchise, but they lead the NFL in fewest yards and points allowed.
12. New Orleans (1-2): The Saints are 1-0 with All-Pro receiver Michael Thomas in the lineup this year and 0-2 without him. Thomas has a good shot of returning this Sunday in Detroit.
13. LA Rams (2-1): The Rams a questionable pass-interference call from being 3-0. They should easily improve to 3-1 this week against the visiting and sorry Giants.
14. Dallas (1-2): The Cowboys are a miracle Week 2 comeback from being 0-3. Dak Prescott is putting up huge numbers but that injury-ravaged defence can’t stop anyone. Why not sign Earl Thomas?
15. Las Vegas (2-1): No shame for the Raiders in losing at New England on Sunday. They look to improve to 2-0 in their new Sin City home in a good matchup Sunday vs. Buffalo.
16. Arizona (2-1): Quarterback Kyler Murray has become one of just three QBs since the merger with a rushing touchdown in each of his teams’ first three games of a season since 1970. However, the Cards were upset Sunday at home by Detroit.
17. Chicago (3-0): This is easily the “luckiest” team in the NFL as the Bears probably should be 0-3. The Mitch Trubisky Era is likely over with Coach Matt Nagy pulling him in the Week 3 comeback over Atlanta. It’s Nick Foles’ team now. The Bears also lost pass-catching running back Tarik Cohen to a torn ACL.
18. Cleveland (2-1): Are you aware the Browns are over .500 for the first time since 2014? They have scored at least 34 points in back-to-back weeks for the first time since 1989.
19. LA Chargers (1-2): The Chargers nearly won Sunday on a trick lateral against Carolina. The team is only eight points from being unbeaten. Rookie QB Justin Herbert has thrown for at least 300 yards in both starts, yet Coach Anthony Lynn says Tyrod Taylor remains his starter when healthy. That makes zero sense.
20. Philadelphia (0-2-1): Has any big-time quarterback this season been a bigger disappointment than Carson Wentz? To be fair, his offensive line is missing three starters and can’t keep Wentz upright.
21. Detroit (1-2): The Lions took some of the heat off embattled coach Matt Patricia with Sunday’s upset win at Arizona. Detroit should be 2-1 if not for blowing a huge Week 1 lead.
22. Miami (1-2): Ryan Fitzpatrick will keep rookie QB Tua Tagovailoa on the bench for one more week after Fitz’s huge game in an upset victory in Jacksonville last Thursday.
23. Jacksonville (1-2): Jags running back James Robinson has been an early-season fantasy football revelation as his 339 yards from scrimmage are the most ever by an undrafted player through his first three games since the common draft began in 1967.
24. Cincinnati (0-2-1): Joe Burrow is still looking for his first pro win but could get it this Sunday as a favourite vs. the visiting Jaguars. Burrow’s 91 completions through his first three career games is a record for a rookie.
25. Minnesota (0-3): This team is way too talented to be 0-3, but Kirk Cousins has the fourth-worst QB rating in the NFL and is tied for the most picks with six. If the Vikes lose this week at fellow winless Houston, Mike Zimmer is in major trouble.
26. Atlanta (0-3): It’s almost comical how the Falcons find inventive ways to lose each week. They probably won’t win in the Monday night game in Green Bay, either. The total of 58 is one of the highest in league history.
27. Houston (0-3): The Texans were the last team to start 0-3 and make the playoffs, doing so in 2018. They aren’t doing that again in 2020. The team is on the verge of reportedly signing seven-time Pro Bowl safety Earl Thomas, though.
28. Carolina (1-2): The Panthers appear to have gotten it right by hiring former Baylor coach Matt Rhule as his team has played well so far and upset the Chargers in L.A. in Week 3.
29. Washington (1-2): It’s looking more and more that Washington made a mistake in taking Ohio State quarterback Dwyane Haskins with the No. 15 overall pick in last year’s draft. Coach Ron Rivera is already hinting a change under centre could be imminent.
30. Denver (0-3): The Broncos are not a 0-3 team, but they are because arguably no club has been hit harder by injuries. They could win Thursday night, though, at the putrid Jets.
31. NY Giants (0-3): Giants fans already want QB Daniel Jones gone. He was the No. 6 overall pick in the 2019 draft.
32. NY Jets (0-3): Jets fans want QB Sam Darnold (No. 3 overall pick in the 2018 draft) and Coach Adam Gase gone. They may get their wish on Gase sometime Friday if the Jets are beaten at home by the winless Broncos on Thursday night.
