Bills defensive end Leonard Floyd caught New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers for a sack just four snaps into the latter’s tenure in New York. Rodgers was in visible pain and was seen limping afterwards. It didn’t take much time for him to head back to the locker room and be declared done for the night. It’s suspected he suffered a torn Achilles.

As expected, the Jets’ Super Bowl odds took a tumble. Their position hovered around eighth overall at +1740, give or take. On Tuesday morning that number shifted to +4768. They now have the 15th highest odds, and it could get even worse.

Jets’ QB Aaron Rodger Could Have an Achilles Tear

It was a Monday Night Football contest to remember. MetLife Stadium hosted the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets, two fierce divisional rivals. It was September 11th and newly minted Jets QB Aaron Rodgers raced out to the field during the team’s intro waving an American flag. The crowd was pumped. But Rodgers’ New York career and the aspirations of Jets fans everywhere were sent into a tailspin early in the first quarter when a sack by Bills’ Leonard Floyd left the QB’s with obvious pain in his left leg.

Rodgers never returned to the game and even though the Jets ultimately won 22-16 in overtime, the dark cloud of their star quarterback’s injury looms large. He’ll have an MRI on Tuesday for further testing, but Jets head coach Robert Saleh didn’t mince words with the media after the game.

“The MRI is probably going to confirm what we’re thinking, so prayers tonight. But it’s not good.”

There is no doubt that should it be a torn Achilles, Rodgers’ season is most likely over. Furthermore, at age 39, what would this mean for any playing time in seasons to come?

The Jets played most of the game with Zach Wilson under centre. Wilson, a 2021 first-round draftee, was the main reason why Aaron Rodgers was brought in at all. It was felt the club needed a jolt of veteran quarterbacking to get to the next level. Now, even with an excellent defence, there may be many Jets fans thinking that the Gang Green is back to square one.

More information is surely to come in the next day or so.
