Giants at Redskins: MNF Preview and Result
New York Giants at Washington Redskins: MNF Game Result and Score
The New York Giants came out of their bye and spanked the Green Bay Packers last week, putting an end to a two-game slide. Now the Giants head to Washington for a date with the Redskins, who have won consecutive games after a suffering through three straight losses.
More from Manning
Giants quarterback Eli Manning struggled before the bye and complained of a tired arm. He didn’t throw a football for a full week and when he came back to practice, his arm looked back to normal. Manning fired three touchdowns in last week’s blowout win over Green Bay. “There was no doubt he was going to come back and play well,” New York coach Tom Coughlin told reporters. “I think the rest really helped him. … Eli said he felt as if he was coming back for the start of the season. I was very confident he would come back and be Eli.”
The RG3 Factor
When the Redskins and Giants hooked up in Week 7, Robert Griffin III put on a show in a losing effort. He completed 20 of his 28 passing attempts for 258 yards with two touchdowns and one interception, while also rushing for another 89 yards. Still, Washington came out on the wrong end of a 27-23 decision. Now the Redskins are looking for revenge as they try to pull within one game of the NFC East East-leading Giants. “The things they faced facing us the last time with the running game are still there but we’ve added elements in the passing game that make us more dangerous,” Griffin told reporters. “So they’ll prepare for that and we’ll see what happens.” Griffin is now just 65 rushing yards away from breaking the rookie quarterback record Cam Newton set last season. He is completing better than 65 percent of his passes and has thrown only four interceptions this year.
Prediction
No team is equipped to completely silence RG3, but the Giants should have a better idea what they’re up against in this second meeting between the two clubs. New York needs to shut down Alfred Morris and get out to a quick start in front of the home crowd. The Giants did a great job of pressuring Aaron Rodgers in the pocket last week and should be able to do the same thing against Washington. Turnovers may be the only thing that separates these two clubs on Monday Night Football. Final score prediction: New York 27, Washington 23.
