The Philadelphia Eagles have stumbled down the back stretch of the regular season, but their Week 18 head-to-head against the Giants could serve a a get-right game heading into the playoffs.

It’s full on panic mode with the Philadelphia Eagles ahead of their regular season finale with the New York Giants. The 11-5 Eagles have now dropped four of their last five games and no longer control their own destiny in regards to winning the NFC East. The one piece of good news is that lone Eagles win out of those five recent games came on Christmas against the Giants. And the 5-11 Giants have plummeted down the stretch with a three-game losing streak.

So, Sunday acts as either a get-right game for the Eagles, or a another cause for concern ahead of their first-round playoff game — which is also now confirmed after Philadelphia officially blew away first in the conference.

Kickoff at MetLife Stadium is set for 4:25 p.m. EST with the Eagles a five-point road favourite, and -240 on the moneyline. NFL oddsmakers have set the over-under at 41.5.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Philadelphia has won five straight over New York while scoring at least 33 points in four of those five wins. The Eagles strong offence has been the main culprit into why nine of the last 11 Eagles–Giants clashes played at MetLife have finished over the total. The Eagles own the seventh highest scoring offence this season (26.4 points per game) while the Giants rank fifth-last in points allowed (24.8 per game).

The Giants are 4-0-1 ATS in their last five home games. Philadelphia’s gone 0-5 ATS in their last five games overall. The Eagles have been favoured in all of their last 10 meetings with New York but the underdog Giants are 6-4 ATS. And when the Giants haven’t covered, it’s typically because the Eagles won by at least 20 points.

Philadelphia Eagles

Ever since the Eagles began to nosedive at the start of last month, one side of the ball has been more concerning than the other and it’s the defence. It’s officially a problem too when a 3-12 Arizona club walks in to Philadelphia and puts up 449 yards and 35 points. The Eagles allowed 221 rushing yards to Arizona, the seventh straight game Philadelphia’s allowed over 100 rushing yards. The Eagles also allowed 29 second half points in last week’s 35-31 loss.

When Philadelphia was 10-1 at the start of December, and also when they cruised to the Super Bowl as the NFC’s one seed last season, they had a tendency to bury opponents. But now the offence fails to display a killer instinct, and the defence gets walked right over to losses.

New York Giants

If the motivation to spoil a divisional rival’s chances at a divisional title isn’t enough for the Giants to get up in Week 18, the belief should also now be instilled within the Giants. What that means is last Sunday New York took one of the hottest teams, the Los Angeles Rams, to the very end and failed at multiple chances late to steal the win from L.A.

Instead it was 26-25 loss for the Giants, but a “meaningless” contest for the Giants in which they played up to a top NFC team’s standard. Tyrod Taylor arguably put forth the best game by a Giants quarterback this season, completing 27 of 41 pass attempts for 319 yards and adding a team-high 40 rushing yards too. Taylor will be under centre for the Giants 2023–24 finale.
