Dallas Cowboys 2026 NFL odds, season preview, analysis and predictions
The Dallas Cowboys come into the 2026-27 season with high hopes as Brian Schottenheimer enters his second season as head coach.
After a 7-9-1 campaign saw them miss the postseason for the second consecutive year, QB Dak Prescott is back at the helm and looking to get America’s Team back in the win column. Their offence will once again be elite without a doubt, but can the defence improve on a season where they gave up 377.0 (30th in the NFL) total yards per game and 30.1 points per game (last in the NFL)?
I took a peek at the Cowboys’ outlook for this season and broke it all down in my Cowboys season preview below.

Dallas Cowboys squad strengths
The Cowboys come into this season with a clear strength: their offence. Prescott is back under centre and is entering his 11th season in Dallas, and he’s never looked better. The Mississippi State product threw for 4,552 passing yards, 30 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions last season and will have all his weapons once again. WRs CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens are one of the best duos in the NFL, TE Jake Ferguson is an elite red-zone target, and RB Javonte Williams can build on his 1,200+ rushing yards from last season. This offence can compete for a division title.
The second half of the Cowboys’ strengths lies with their offensive line. Tyler Smith and Terence Steele are two of the highest-paid players on the team, and with good reason. Besides Smith and Steele, Nate Thomas is battling for the starting left tackle spot with Tyler Guyton, and Tyler Booker should start every game after featuring in 14 games in his rookie season. There aren’t many defensive lines in the league with an advantage over Dallas’ front five.
Dallas Cowboys squad weaknesses
The Cowboys’ biggest weakness is their defence overall, but their most glaring issue is the front seven. Although Quinnen Williams just inked a massive three-year $105.9 million contract extension, the rest of the line has question marks. Rashan Gary struggled to shine after being traded from the Green Bay Packers, Kenny Clark was extremely inconsistent last season, Donovan Ezeiruaku is coming off offseason hip surgery, and Malachi Lawrence is a rookie. On paper, the sky is the limit for this defensive line, but I’m not buying in until they show up for a few weeks.
Although I highlighted the defensive line as a major weakness, the secondary isn’t much better. Last season, the Cowboys allowed 251.5 passing yards per game, good for dead last in the NFL. The good news is that CB DaRon Bland looks good after offseason foot surgery and S Caleb Downs should make an immediate impact. However, the second player to pair with both of those two is still up in the air, and the secondary is very thin after them.
Dallas to win the NFC East (+235)
This defence has question marks without a doubt, but I’m extremely high on this Dallas squad. They have a new defensive coordinator in Christian Parker, and the defence simply cannot be worse compared to last season.
Additionally, this offence will once again be a top-five unit in the NFL, especially with Dak connecting with Pickens and Lamb. Philly should experience some regression after winning two straight titles, and I think the Cowboys can grab a chance to be divisional champs once again.
