Commanders vs. Chiefs MNF Point Spread: NFL Week 8 Odds, Prediction
One of the most intriguing quarterback matchups of the season featuring Jayden Daniels of the Commanders and Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs to conclude Week 8 on Monday night from Kansas City is in major jeopardy of happening due to a Daniels injury. That’s why K.C. is a 10-point favourite on the NFL odds with a total of 48.5.
Monday Night Football Point Spread and Betting Analysis
A reminder that Monday Night Football doubleheaders are finished for the 2025 NFL season barring something unusual. Washington at Kansas City on MNF to close Week 8 was on just about every Top 10 Games to Watch list this year because of the quarterback matchup and that it could be a potential preview of Super Bowl. But it may not happen due to injury. And neither team may be good enough to win its conference at this point.
Washington’s Jayden Daniels, a former Heisman winner, was the 2024 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year who led his team to the NFC title game and looks like a future MVP and perhaps the league’s best QB if he stays healthy. Alas, he’s not healthy right now.
Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes is only 30 and surely has many great years left, including this one, but is already an all-timer as a two-time regular-season MVP and three-time Super Bowl MVP. He wasn’t a candidate for Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2017 because he only played one meaningless game that first season, otherwise sitting and watching behind starter Alex Smith.
Washington has a 1-10 record all-time against the Chiefs and has never won in Kansas City at 0-5.
Washington Commanders
Commanders second-year star QB Jayden Daniels missed two games earlier this season because of a sprained left knee. Fellow former Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota started those two and led the club to a 1-1 mark. Daniels left Sunday’s loss in Dallas with a hamstring injury, and the good news is an MRI revealed no significant damage. Having the extra day ahead of facing the Chiefs only helps Daniels, but it seems likely it will be Mariota.
The team’s top three wideouts in Terry McLaurin, Deebo Samuel and Noah Brown all missed (at least) Sunday’s game injured, and too early to know on them. Defensive end Dorance Armstrong suffered a season-ending torn ACL in his right knee on Sunday. He leads the team in sacks, and it’s the last thing the unit needs as the Commanders rank 21st in scoring defence (24.3 PPG) and 27th in yards allowed (364.3 YPG). Washington is 1-4 ATS in its past five road games.
Kansas City Chiefs
So much for the early season panic around the Chiefs as they have won four of five following a 31-0 demolition of Las Vegas on Sunday in which the Raiders had just 30 plays, the fewest by any team in a game this century, three first downs (0-for-3 on third down) and 95 total yards. It was Kansas City’s largest ever shutout win in a long-running series and shockingly the first shutout in the 427th regular-season game of future Hall of Fame coach Andy Reid. The defence has been great all year and the offence is clicking after a slow start as Patrick Mahomes had three more TD passes – joining Len Dawson as the only Chiefs QBs with at least three passing TDs in three straight home games. K.C. has scored at least 28 points in four straight games for the first time since 2021-22.
The one piece of bad news from Sunday was rookie defensive tackle Omar Norman-Lott suffering a season-ending torn ACL. The second-round pick had five tackles and a sack this year. The Chiefs have just healthy three players now at the position so may make a move this week – the trade deadline is also upcoming. The under is 4-2 in the Chiefs’ past six games.
