Colts vs. Jaguars Point Spread: NFL Predictions, Week 17 Odds
There might not be a team with more pending change coming this off-season more than the Jaguars. This team was in the AFC title game following the 2017 season and nearly won it but has hugely underachieved since. Executive vice president of football operations Tom Coughlin, the former two-time Super Bowl-winning coach of the New York Giants, already has been fired. Seems a foregone conclusion that GM David Caldwell and Coach Doug Marrone will be too. The team would love to trade quarterback Nick Foles as he proved a high-priced bust, but good luck getting rid of that contract.
Indianapolis was considered a Super Bowl contender in the summer, but then star quarterback Andrew Luck retired during the pre-season and that changed everything. The Colts got off to a 5-2 start and it looked like they had a long-term solution under centre in Jacoby Brissett, but things have largely fallen apart since then to the point the Colts may have to think about drafting a QB. Or perhaps trying to talk Luck out of retirement.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The Colts go for the season sweep of the Jaguars as Indy won 33-13 in Week 11. Brissett threw for a score and ran for one. Indianapolis gashed Jacksonville for 264 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. The Colts had two rushers with at least 100 yards for the first time since 1985. Foles threw for 296 and two scores in a losing effort, both TDs to promising young receiver DJ Chark.
The Colts are 1-7-1 ATS in the past nine meetings. The under is 12-5 in the previous 17.
Indianapolis Colts
The Colts snapped a four-game losing streak with a 38-6 rout Sunday over a Carolina Panthers team that has quit on the season. Nyheim Hines had punt return touchdowns of 84 and 71 yards to become just the fifth player with at least two punt return touchdowns of 70-or-more yards in a single game in NFL history. It last happened in 1993.
The Colts went into Sunday having gone 115 straight games without a punt return touchdown, the fourth-longest active streak in the NFL. Top tailback Marlon Mack rushed 16 times for 95 yards and one score and topped the 1,000-yard mark in a season for the first time.
Two of the team’s best players and Pro Bowlers, left guard Quenton Nelson and linebacker Darius Leonard, left in the third quarter to be evaluated for concussions. Leonard returned but Nelson didn’t. The Colts are 7-1 ATS in their past eight vs. the AFC South.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Looks as if the Jags have quit on Marrone, losing six of seven and each loss by double digits. It was 24-12 in Atlanta on Sunday. Jacksonville was down 14-0 before its offence even took a snap. Rookie QB Gardner Minshew II struggled in hitting just 13 of 31 for 181 yards, although he wasn’t picked off and had a TD pass. Leonard Fournette had 105 yards from scrimmage but failed to score for the 13th time this season.
In giving up 518 yards to the Falcons, it marked just the second time in franchise history the Jaguars have allowed 500 or more yards in a game twice in a single season. Jacksonville will finish with double-digit losses for the eighth time in the past nine years. The Jags are 1-4 ATS in their past five at home.
