Chiefs vs. Seahawks Point Spread: NFL Pre-Season Week 2 Odds, Prediction

Kansas City lost its preseason opener on the road to the Arizona Cardinals, 20-17, while Seattle finished in a 23-23 tie with the Las Vegas Raiders at home.

Until someone (Buffalo? Baltimore?) can prove otherwise, the Chiefs, who finished 15-2 last season and reached the Super Bowl for the fifth time in six years, are the class of the AFC.

Seattle, which went 10-7 under new coach Mike Macdonald and missed the play offs for the third time in four years, is trying to re-enter the NFC’s top tier.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Chiefs coach Andy Reid, who is fourth in NFL history with 273 career wins, is now 46-52 straight up and 46-50-2 against the spread in preseason contests. The Chiefs failed to cover as a 2.5-point favourite against the Cardinals, and the game played to the under.

Macdonald is now 2-2-1 straight up and against the spread in preseason games with the Seahawks. Seattle failed to cover as 4.5-point favourites against the Raiders, and the game was played to the over.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs took over from the New England Patriots as the face of the NFL and have held that position for more than half a decade. Under Reid, Kansas City has reached the playoffs for 10 straight seasons and 11 of his 12 at the helm. The Chiefs have won nine straight AFC West titles, reached the AFC Championship game in seven consecutive seasons, and have won the Super Bowl three times in five appearances over the past six years.

Two-time NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes had another stellar season under center last year, completing 67.5% of his passes for 3,928 yards and 26 touchdowns.

Seattle Seahawks

Macdonald took over from long-time coach Pete Carroll and led the Seahawks to double-digit victories for the first time in four seasons, but the franchise, which went to back-to-back Super Bowls a decade ago, failed to reach the playoffs.

Seattle refused to stand pat, jettisoning three-year starting quarterback Geno Smith (70.4%, 4,320 yards, 21 TDs) in favour of 2024 NFL Most Improved Player Sam Darnold (66.2%, 4,319 yards, 35 TDs), formerly of the Minnesota Vikings. The team also traded wide receiver DK Metcalf and acquired long-time Los Angeles Rams receiver Cooper Kupp to join emerging star Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

NFL Prediction: Who Will Win Chiefs vs. Seahawks?

Mahomes threw one pass in the Chiefs’ first preseason game, a touchdown, while Darnold did not appear for the Seahawks as both clubs followed the NFL norm of sitting most starters and veterans.

Although drives and plays will still be limited, expect to see more starters as the NFL creeps toward next month’s regular season. Both teams have interesting battles for the backup quarterback position. Seattle brought back Drew Lock and he is up against exciting third-round pick Jalen Milroe from Alabama.

For Kansas City, Gardner Minshew has the lead on Bailey Zappe after one preseason game.

Look for the Seahawks to hold on to the lead this time around and defeat the Chiefs at home, 24-21.
