An NFL head coach is only as good as his starting quarterback for the most part. The Los Angeles Chargers’ Jim Harbaugh is considered one of the best football coaches alive, but his club is winless because his quarterback in Justin Herbert has struggled in the early going. Herbert played great in each of Harbaugh’s first two seasons when the club won 11 games in each and reached the playoffs. Now at 0-2, it’s already must-win time on Sunday, and the schedule gets no easier anytime soon.
Buffalo is under first-year head coach Joe Brady, but he had been the offensive coordinator there a few seasons previously. That unit is rolling in leading the league in scoring by far at 38.5 points per game, and QB Josh Allen is a +250 second-favourite to win a second career regular-season MVP Award.
Including three playoff matchups, the Chargers lead this all-time series 25-14-2 but Buffalo has won the past two. The last was in December 2023 by a score of 24-22 in L.A. Allen threw for a score and rushed for two. That Chargers team was in disarray pre-Harbaugh and started Easton Stick at QB.

It’s boring saying to back Buffalo QB Josh Allen for a rushing score, but he finds the end zone nearly every week – four rushing TDs already in 2026. For the Bolts, take Justin Herbert for an interception. He has not looked good with three picks and just two touchdowns in 54 attempts. He might be throwing a lot on Sunday if his team is trailing big, which is a very distinct possibility.
Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers offence has looked broken under former Dolphins head coach and first-year coordinator Mike McDaniel. QB Justin Herbert had perhaps his best season in 2025 but is completing just 59.3 per cent of his passes for 401 yards with two TDs and three interceptions while taking six sacks. The offensive line is doing Herbert no favours. Los Angeles has committed 13 offensive penalties and fumbled the ball seven times already. The Chargers have become the first team ever to start 0-2 with both defeats to clubs that lost at least 14 games the previous season. Jim Harbaugh’s five-game losing streak dating to last season is the longest of his career including college. L.A. is averaging only 10.0 points per game during that skid. To make matters worse, the team is down to one healthy tight end after putting David Njoku and Charlie Kolar on injured reserve this week. Both were hurt Sunday as were guard Kayode Awosika and defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson.
Buffalo Bills
The good news is the Bills lead the NFL in scoring at 38.5 points per game but the bad is they are near the bottom in allowing 31.0 points per. Buffalo has become the third team all-time to start 2-0 and allow at least 30 points in both games. Josh Allen, the NFL MVP favourite, had five total touchdowns in the 41-31 win over Detroit in Week 2 in Buffalo’s first game that counted at the new Highmark Stadium. Allen is only the third QB in league history with nine total touchdowns and zero turnovers through the first two games of a season. Patrick Mahomes in 2018 and Peyton Manning in 2013 also did it and would win MVP. The extra time off ahead of Week 3 can only help the Bills after losing starting wideout DJ Moore and defensive tackle Ed Oliver to injuries vs. the Lions. Neither is considered serious. Oliver is an anchor of that defence, while the Bills acquired Moore in an offseason trade with the Bears, and he had five catches for 100 yards and a TD in Week 1.
