Browns vs. Chiefs Point Spread: NFL Pre-Season Week 3 Odds, Prediction

Week 2 saw a lot of good from one of these clubs and a mixture of good and bad from the other. The Cleveland Browns played an 18-18 draw in Philadelphia, a contest they could have one were it not for a missed field goal attempt. Conversely, the Chiefs looked like a well-oiled machine ready to go when they hammered the Arizona Cardinals 38-10.

The NFL preseason odds have the Cleveland Browns as -3.0 favourites.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

It’s been a while since the Browns have known success against the Chiefs. As of now, September 2012 was the final time that Cleveland got the better of Kansas City. Since then the Chiefs have strung together a run of five wins over the Browns, including a close one in 2021, 33-29.

Given that the Browns were an underdog versus the Eagles in Week 2 of the preseason, the draw earned them a win against the spread. As such, the club enters this final game 2-1 ATS (they played the Hall of Fame Game and therefore have an extra contest in their record books).

Being a -7.5 favourite in a road game can be tough for most teams to live up except maybe Kansas City. They easily covered, which levelled their record against the spread this summer to 1-1.

Cleveland Browns

Football games that end in draws always feel like a downer. As former coach Herman Edwards once brilliantly said to the media in a post-game presser, you play to win the game.

Still, preseason action is for tune-ups and giving reps to guys who might spend most of their time on the bench when the game gets important. From that perspective, the contest with the Eagles saw some very strong defensive play from Cleveland’s front seven. The defence overall had a splendid evening, limiting Philly to just 2-for-10 on third down and earning a safety early in the contest. Linebacker Mohamoud Diabate put up nice figures, tallying eight total tackles, one for a loss. As for the offence, wide receiver Austin Watkins Jr. was all over the place with seven receptions for 139 yards and a major he scored despite bobbling the ball originally.

Quarterback play was split between Dorian Thompson-Robinson (13-for-25, 164 yards) and Kellen Mond (12-for-24, 126 yards, 1 TD). Decent, if unspectacular. Unfortunately, kicker Cade York had a chance to give his team a lead late but missed his attempt.

Kansas City Chiefs

Confused fans didn’t have to adjust their television set or streaming device last week. It was all real. The Kansas City Chiefs, even with a bunch of backups, looked like a regular-season version of themselves by thumping the Arizona Cardinals 38-10.

Did Arizona help along the way with some displays of awful tackling? Sure, but good teams know how to take advantage of the opportunities awarded to them. Their total of 504 yards combined speaks to how efficient KC was. It was a QB carousel in the desert, as no fewer than seven gunslingers were seen in action from both sides. Patrick Mahomes played one drive which led to a touchdown. After that KC tested the waters with Blane Gabbert, Shane Buechele, and Chris Oladokun. The best part? They all had QB ratings over 100! It remains to be seen who backs up Mahomes this season, but the club has a decent runner-up stable.
