Denver Broncos vs. Houston Texans

Point spread: Denver -9

Over/under: 43

Denver Broncos

The Broncos are in a bit of a slide, dropping their last two games, including a recent loss to the San Diego Chargers. The week before, rookie QB Paxton Lynch gave a very poor performance against the Atlanta Falcons, and Trevor Siemian, who had given the Broncos a 4-0 start to their season, was back at the helm when the team then lost to San Diego.

They look messy offensively, and have taken over 100 total yards in penalties. Denver’s coach, Gary Kubiak, had to take a week off on doctor’s orders after he suffered a complex migraine and was hospitalized overnight the night after their loss to the Falcons.

It’s expected that the team will try and get rookie running back Devontae Booker going this week, perhaps even giving him the starting gig over Anderson. Despite their struggles, Denver is still the more complete team, which is why they are so heavily favored at -9. The two teams last faced off in 2013, with the Broncos taking home the win, 37-13.

Houston Texans

This will be Brock Osweiler’s return to the team he left in the offseason, and he’ll be looking to prove something. The Broncos have already made their intentions clear about what they’ll want to prove in return.

Last season, Osweiler went 5-2 as the Broncos’ starter, but then shocked everyone when he signed a four-year, $72 million contract with the Texans. The Broncos reportedly offered him $2 million less, although with Osweiler’s performance so far through six games with the Texans this season, the Broncos might be feeling like they dodged a very expensive bullet.

The Texans are number one in the AFC South at 4-2, but their new franchise quarterback has not impressed. He doesn’t rank in the top 25 in passer rating (74.1), yards per game (234) or completion percentage (59%). The Houston Texans are currently priced as huge +9 underdogs in this matchup.
