2016 NFL Draft Odds: Bet Carson Wentz or Jared Goff at No. 1

Before the Los Angeles Rams traded a ransom of picks to the Tennessee Titans for the no. 1 spot, it was unlikely that a quarterback would be taken first overall in the 2016 NFL Draft. But with the Titans securing their franchise signal caller in Marcus Mariota last year, they’ve given a Rams team desperate for a starting quarterback the chance to draft either Carson Wentz out of North Dakota State or Jared Goff from the University of California Berkeley.

Goff v. Wentz

Both Wentz and Goff are both prototypical pocket-passing quarterbacks that head coaches covet. The differences between the two appear to be marginal with both showing poise under pressure, making them both highly accurate passers over their college careers – something the Rams have lacked at the position since Kurt Warner left the team in 2001.

Los Angeles head coach Jeff Fisher will have to analyze the small differences between Wentz and Goff. Wentz has an inch and over 20 pounds on Goff, making him a big, physical quarterback built to take the rigors of the position. What Goff lacks in size, he makes up for in quick, clean mechanics and good decision-making; the latter being an innate trait not easily coached up.

In the end, Goff is the more “win-now” pick for the Rams and if they were still in St. Louis, might have been the deciding factor. With a move to L.A., the team will have a bit of a grace period that would allow the team to bring Wentz along at a slower pace that could allow him to eventually become the face of the franchise. I

Draft Odds

Both the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles will be taking a good hard look at Ohio State standout running back, Ezekiel Elliot, who would fill the void in the backfield after the departure of DeMarco Murray from both teams in less than a year. Elliot is listed as -1600 favorite to be the first running back off the draft board. Expect the Cowboys to snatch him up as the fourth pick to keep him away from their NFC East rivals the Eagles.

The Cleveland Browns pick second and many see them choosing the quarterback leftover after the Rams have their pick despite signing Robert Griffin III to a contract in the offseason. There has been speculation that the Browns could trade out of the two spot in order to obtain more picks to fill a depleted roster, or they could simply pick offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil out of Mississippi to help shore up a lackluster offensive line. Tunsil has -750 odds to be the first offensive lineman to be drafted this year.
