Notre Dame vs. Texas Tech Bracket Prediction: March Madness Odds
The Red Raiders are -7.5 on the college basketball odds.
Notre Dame vs. Texas Tech NCAA Tournament Point Spread and Betting
The winner of this West Region matchup between No. 11 Notre Dame and No. 3 Texas Tech from San Diego will face either No. 7 Michigan State or No. 2 Duke in the Sweet 16 (it will be Duke). These schools last played in 1975.
If you are wondering, and I was, the “worst” seed to ever make the Final Four is a No. 11. And one came out of the First Four last year to do so: UCLA. An 11 seed has never reached the NCAA title game. Since 1985 when the bracket expanded, a No. 3 seed like Texas Tech has won it all four times. It last happened in 2011 with UConn.
The Irish didn’t play a Big 12 team this season and Texas Tech didn’t play an ACC team. These teams haven’t played since December 1975.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish (11)
Notre Dame (24-10) needed double overtime to beat Rutgers in the First Four, and I’ll admit that the draining game, quick turnaround and flight to San Diego would be too much in the first round against Alabama. Yet the Irish pulled off the 78-64 upset of the No. 6 Tide on Friday, meaning a First Four winner has won a Round of 64 game in 10 of 11 NCAA Tournaments since it was instituted. Senior guard Cormac Ryan, not usually a huge scorer, hit school-record-tying (NCAA Tournament) seven three-pointers against Bama and finished with 29 points. Those were the most points for an Irish player in the Big Dance since Adrian Dantley scored 31 in an 80-76 loss to Michigan on March 18, 1976. And it was the 15th NCAA Tournament win as Notre Dame coach for Mike Brey, matching Digger Phelps for the most in school history. The Irish are 6-2 ATS in their past eight.
Texas Tech Red Raiders (3)
Texas Tech (26-9) is one of the best defensive teams in the nation and that was on display in a Round 1 97-62 win over Big Sky champion Montana State. Bryson Williams and Terrence Shannon, Jr. scored 20 points each, while Kevin Obanor recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds – his fourth straight NCAA Tournament double-double with three last year. The Red Raiders set a school record for the most points scored and largest margin of victory. They shot an absurd 66.7 per cent. The Red Raiders scored the most points of any team in the first round of the tournament. The 97 points, 23 assists and 12 made three-pointers were also season highs. I promise that’s not happening again in the Round of 32. Texas Tech is 2-5 ATS in its past seven.
