Hoop Hopes – Ricky Rothstein makes his picks for tonight’s NBA action!

Indiana at New York
The Indiana Pacers suffered defeat for the first time this season when they lost to the Bulls at the United Center on Saturday, 110-94. Paul George was shut down and Derrick Rose unpicked the Pacers’ previously rock-solid defense to bring victory to the Bulls. But Indiana has had four days to stew on that loss and now they travel to New York as a six point road favorite.

The Knicks are just home after another beating, last night at the Palace of Auburn Hills where the Pistons won and covered, 92-86. That was the seventh loss for the Knicks and coach Mike Woodson will surely find himself thrown in front of a bus if this continues.

But then, what he can he do? Indiana would have dominated the Knicks’ frontcourt anyway, but with Tyson Chandler gone from the Knicks’ lineup the home team has no chance against the one of the best teams in the League this year.

Boston at San Antonio
When Boston visits San Antonio tonight, the Celtics will see the team that they would like to be. Boston is currently going through a painful period of rebuilding but the Spurs never seem to have to do that. They integrate new players just before the old ones have started to decline to make the change look timeless. If San Antonio was a TV show, it’d be Law and Order. The cast changes, but the end result is always the same.

Of course, none of this is a secret and that explains why San Antonio is asked to cover 14.5 points tonight. The sensible bet here is the under – elite teams aren’t always reliable to cover, because they have the ability to change gears and play within themselves against opposition that they know they can beat. San Antonio is 5-5 ATS this year, but you can’t bet Boston either, because Boston is terrible. The sensible thing is to conclude that if the Spurs go easy on the Celtics, the score has to be low. The Under is the bet.
Hoop Hope 2 | Under 192 points

LA Clippers at Minnesota
The Clippers and Timberwolves are both coming off surprise losses – Minnesota at Washington last night, and the Clippers as an 8.5 point home court favorite against Memphis on Monday. My dollar says the Clippers will get over it better. They’re a year further along in their development than the Wolves and in Chris Paul they have the best point guard in the League. Clippers with the points – or point, in this particular case – is a good deal.
