The start of the 2021-22 NBA regular season is officially upon us as the Golden State Warriors will take on the Los Angeles Lakers in the second game of the new year. As always, the marquee matchup of the contest will be Steph Curry and LeBron James, two of the best players in NBA history. These two franchises did play each other during the pre-season about a week ago with the Warriors pulling out a win. Will Golden State repeat that outcome or will the Lakers show them that it was just pre-season?

The Lakers are 3.5-point favourites to win on the NBA odds, with a total of 227.

Warriors vs. Lakers NBA Odds

The Warriors are 6-0 against the spread in their last six games overall but that’s dating back to last year. Golden State has struggled when given extended rest, though, as they are just 2-5 ATS in their past seven when having three or more rest days prior to a matchup.

Meanwhile, the Lakers are just 6-14-1 ATS in their last 21 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last five games played at home. Similar to how the Warriors have struggled on extended rest, the Lakers have struggled on a small amount of rest. They are 3-8-1 ATS in their past 12 contests when only getting one day of rest.

Golden State Warriors

The Dubs enter the year in the top four championship favourites for this season and their perfect 5-0 pre-season record proves their value. With a healthy Curry on the roster, Golden State appears to be ready to compete again. Klay Thompson won’t be available for this game but maybe that isn’t too much of a problem considering the emergence of Jordan Poole. He is one of the hottest bets to win Most Improved Player of the Year right now.

The Warriors seem to have much more depth than last year, so they could be able to weather the storm without Klay for now. Role players like Nemanja Bjelica and Otto Porter Jr. give them a much-needed boost on both ends against a tough Lakers roster. Don’t be surprised if Curry comes out and drops 40-plus in this game either as he may be wanting to prove that his team is legit and try to win in any way possible.

Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers are flush with talent but went 0-6 in the pre-season. Granted, it’s pre-season, but it was still notable for a team with as much talent as they have. We already know the type of skill that they boast with James and Anthony Davis healthy and ready to go. But they also acquired Russell Westbrook during the offseason to give them a superstar point guard that they desperately needed. Outside of these guys, veteran pickups like Carmelo Anthony have them ranked as West favourites. Everyone is curious to see how it all fits together and this will be our first look.
